If I have some 'jackpot' coords for Crystal Shards in HIP 36601.

Hi Folks,

I don't know if this is useful or not but it would've been to me if I'd found it before. After much trawling of the the forum, reddit and YT, looking for actual coordinates of decent crystal shard sites for Odyssey in HIP 36601, I gave up and did the grind to find sites myself. So, here are my coordinates for sites where I was able to completely fill certain rare raws from empty without driving all over the place:

HIP36601 C 1 a Polonium: -57.4599, 126.9543

HIP36601 C 1 d Ruthenium: -51.2639, 14.7291

HIP36601 C 3 b Telluruim: -17.6769, -55.1800

HIP36601 C 5 a Technetium: 3.5500, 111.5415

Edit: And.... >400 LY further away:

Outotz LS-K d8-3, B 5 a Yttrium: -1.9216 -145.7013

Outotz LS-K d8-3, B 5 c Antimony: -62.4905 80.2426

Is there any reason why peeps don't post the coords? Will they be different the next time I come back? Are they different for different people? Will FDev look at the list and think ( Oh no, someone found a way to reduce grind - we can't have that ). As mentioned, I did a lot of searches on this and plenty of people talk about planets and coords but don't actually post the latter. Even as I created this post I searched all the suggestions and nothing.

Doubtless this is where someone highlights a well known URL that has all this information and more anyway.

Nicely done!
I took one of my alts and another player out to the sites recently - some of the bodies were 'reluctant' to give up where they had hidden the shards, so Horizons was fired up.

We'd both have appreciated your findings!

Will update this if I find anything at Outotz LS-K d8-3 for Antinomy

The location of the shards are procedurally generated, they will be the same for everyone, having said that, I haven't dropped in on a crystal shard body and not been able to easily find them no matter where I drop in, they are widespread.

It's good to hear that, sounds like you've got the gift. For me, unfortunately, my experience was the opposite on the four planets above. All the above 'big sites' with lots of shards, took more than an hour each to find, using heat maps ( for what they're worth ) and following various advice on picking terrain to explore and that was using my viper rather than an SRV to cover alot more terrain.

NIce.
Maybe you could add this to the dedicated guide in the newb/guides section?

I really hate they dropped the POI system from Horizons and reverted to Eyeballing stuff again.
They could have kept the POIs for bigger concentrations of features and still have them spread all over as it is now.

For me this is one of the biggest (if not The Biggest) let down of Odyssey

Thanks, didn't think of that so I just pasted in there. BTW I trawled the entire 11 page thread. NO-ONE posts coordinates.

"Excuse me, can you tell me where I can find some Daffodils?"
"Yes yes of course... Earth" 🤦‍♂️

Most people farm those materials in Horizons where since easier to find the shards by going to a specific biological POI. Material gathering on those sites was broken in odyssey for a while after launch too so no one bothered finding good spots for this.

I hear you. Selenium had me reaching for Horizons, broken key mappings and all.

My biggest let down was when they changed the heat map because it "confused" some players, this wouldn't be an issue if it was a proper heat map.

As for bigger concentrations, look they are all over the place, I have driven 30-40klm across planets and still found shards at the same concentration, flown over endless fields for hundreds of klms, that system simply wouldn't work because it would end up in to many yellow POI's because, you know, it's a planet, where do you draw the line, how do you decide it's a bigger concentration? If you had a slider it's likely it would be 1 or thousands with nothing in between. In fact having POI's for bigger concentrations would be just like having a heatmap except with overlapping and confusing patterns of yellow circles.

Bigger concentrations of features are not random, they're procedurally generated and they can definitely add POIs for like the biggest 6-8 features.
It's not like they lost the tech to add POI's

Even on bodies with more than one feature that wont be clogging the navpanel too much

And yea, having a proper heat map would have been nice as well

The problem is they aren't features, each crystal shard is a thing by itself, that's how procedural works, they would need to map all of the crystal shards on the entire planet, decide on an arbitrary number and area that defines "feature", then analyse the entire planet full of crystal shards to determine what areas are "dense enough" to be put as a POI. If you think a planet with an 510 million square km isn't going to have a lot of these sites then you are kidding yourself. I can land anywhere on most of these planets and see crystal shards for as far as I care to drive/fly, I just don't see the need when they are so easy to find.

Good thinking. Given how sparse the bigger concentrations are, HIP C 1 a was a particular PIA to find a good one, designing a threshold above which they show for POI's would be a really good idea.

If I find other such planets which are equally spartan I'll keep posting the coords. This was the first time I'd done any crystal shard farming in either EDO or EDH and, despite the YT vids and the various forums, I didn't appreciate how much grind it would be finding good sites until I actually had to do it myself. The only one that wasn't a nightmare was B 5 c in LS-K but even that took awhile to find a one stop group.

Thanks for all of the coordinates, worked like a charm ! (y)

Well... except for me... I mixed the cordinates from Outotz LS-K d3-8 B 5 a with B 5 c and was pretty horrified about the terrain and some not expected distances between the shard spikes.

Fun fact about that position: there is a shard site, too. Not as compact and dense as the others but it was still enough to fill my hold in one run and without me getting suspicious... 🤷‍♂️
That started when I got to B 5 a and thought "odd, that's the same coord... oh, wait... " 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Btw not the best place for big ships, my Anaconda landed fine but I wasn't able to board as the terrain is somewhat rough and Annie's nose was too high above my SRV...
That happened 4 times before I decided to log in from standard E: D... 🤷‍♂️

By the way, there is Valkirye, crashed conda in Trianguli Sector GW-W b1-0, with 3 cargo racks around, Ruthenium, Tellurium, Antimony in any combination.
It's easy solution, but only for this 3 materials, and relogging.

One day i'll figure a way to plot a route to HIP 366001, sadly my little sidey just doesn't seem to be up to it, plotter gets like 90% through its progress bar and then stops .

But one day, one day the all the poloniumz shall be mine!
