If I put turreted weapons on a ship, will the ship help you kill sentries?

I put point defense on top of a small ship, to help take out Guardian sentries' missiles. If I add turreted weapons, will the ship shoot at the sentries when I get attacked in my SRV?
Would I have to set it up any special way so it automatically fires when I get attacked.

Nope... weapons wont activate while landed.

Point Defence can be helpful against missiles, that's about it though I think.

Oh yeah, the point defense is great, but that's it...
Handbrakes can help against the sentiilels blasts knocking your SRV over...
Otherwise, rotate pips between Shield 4, Weaps 2 to Shield 2, Weaps 4 while firing. Engiines can live on 0 until after the fight when you need to jump up to the console area

Try deploying weapons while landed, then you'll know.
Additionally, you can't launch a SRV in multicrew so the point is rather moot at this stage.
You can't even have a wingmate shoot them, since FD needed targeting skimmers from ships.
