If I stand still and spin, you can't hit me...

...said no player ever. However, NPCs seems to think that this is a viable option. I am currently taking part in my first CG (been playing for like a week), and while I'm clearing trade lanes I find surprisingly many NPC ships that comes to a (near) full stop while when I engage them. They're sitting, spinning ducks just eating the damage. What's up with that?

Its a bug, and confirmed to be fixed in 2.1. If you stop firing for a second they start moving again, its silly but thats how I get past it for now.

Ahhh yes, the tactical rotisserie. It's like they are doing some mating dance for me; look at my pretty colors and such.

That bug has been around for a while now.. going to be interesting to see how it's fixed. If their fix for NPCs ramming asteroids is any indication.. they went from plowing into rocks to plowing into you.

Good thing it's finally getting fixed, this problem has been around for months...
I'm really sorry because I know everyone around here loves SJA (and she seems like a very nice person), but the AI in this game has way too many issues to be considered even remotely good. And that's coming from someone who is usually very forgiving about bad AI in most games.

More like, " can you hit my powerplant now? " .... " how about now? " ........ " this side? Yeah! Right there... that's the spot!!! mmmnnn "

And I'm like.. " Ok. This feels wrong... yet... so right? "

I've noticed a few blank reactions when I've said "Tarzan fights a crocodile". This is what I was I was referring to..

Well, the Tarzan movie isn't too far off from the truth...only the croc spins a bit too early. They do like to spin their pray, but only after they have gotten a hold of them. Like this Darwin award nominee demonstrates:

The following link contains video material of an idiot putting his hand inside a crocodile's mouth, with obvious results. Not for the fainthearted!

OFC the "link from this timestamp"-function didn't work. The spin starts at 1:15.

It's a problem in one of the wiring looms, apparently you get a small fire which shorts the flight stick and takes out the flight assist.

On a more serious note - I actually think its quite interesting to see some of these quirky things because in combat things fail and if the wrong things fail you get bizarre behaviour. I never worried about it, just assumed it was a design fault.

That's really quite nasty. I don't even like seeing idiots getting hurt badly. Could you maybe stick some spoilers around that.

The great thing about the Tarzan clip is the senselessness of the spinning. Like you say the crocodile isn't gripping limb so there's nothing to twist off. <yech>

SJA was moved off AI mid 2015....before this started.

Good, point. I put some spoiler tags around the video.

The "fire in the wiring loom" explanation is actually a good one. Or the pilot could experience a black- or redout from pulling a high-g maneuver and is slumped over the controls, or might have banged his head on a beam that fell from the celing. Oh...wait wait...wrong canon for that :D

IMO ships doing random grazy acts could well be explained by hardware failures or "pilot errors" even if the pilot is an NPC. How many commanders have missed the toaster rack, even repeatedly (rises his hand) and people still complain that it's stupid that npcs miss it too. A little bit of crazy in the mix makes it that much more realistic.

I think it is a retro nod to the original game opening screen in the 1984 game ;)
