If i turn off report crimes

will I become wanted if I fight back against someone who attacks me? I'm hoping to actually get into some pvp and I figured the easiest way to get into it is to turn crimes off and go to a pvp hotspot. (have heard Wyrd is good for that?) Just wondering because I'd rather not become wanted in the process.

If a clean ship attacks you and you have report crimes turned off, they won't become wanted for attacking you - meaning that you will indeed become wanted if you shoot back because you're firing on a clean ship.

edit: in fact it's a known trolling technique to interdict clean ships and not fire upon them while clean yourself, in the hope that they'll retaliate and become wanted as interdiction is only a fine rather than a bounty.

I think this is one of the unwritten rules of PvP anyway. I'd certainly imagine you wouldn't want NPCs cluttering up the place when you want a 1v1.

Good hunting Cmdr.

As per artcicle 7, paragraph 9, clause B of the simple, obvious, sensible and working Crime and Punihment system.

If the attacker was clean to begin with, yes. Since you are not reporting the crime, they will not become wanted for firing at you (while you are yourself clean ofc). If you fire back, you are firing at a clean ship.
Unless they also don't report crimes. Or it's an anarchy system.

So, what is not simple or sensible about the report crime function? Does it not do what it says on the tin?

well that's a little disappointing, thanks for the info though! Any anarchy systems that are pvp hotspots? :D

I was going to say San Tu was the PvP hub, but it looks like an alliance PMF took over the system last month? I'm surprised that was allowed to happen.

Wyrd good for PvP.......RoA will certainly give you a thorougher good beasting! Those guys are damn good, and they hunt in well organised groups. Perhaps not the best place to go, but try asking them for a 1v1, they may oblige. Just don't turn up with a DC You won't get a chance to start typing ;)

You only use it to play PvP without consequences on C&P for your opponents
Not true. If you turn it off in a Res the cops don't show up to pop all of your bad guys before you can. Every time a crime is committed against you more cops spawn so you end up with a whole gaggle of them farming the few pirates that respawn. Disclaimer: I've turned crimes off in the Res for years now so the mechanic may have changed to a more reasonable amount of pigs.

The main thing I turn "Report Crimes Against Me" off for is PvE hijacking missions where the target is wanted.

If you don't do that, you'll be mid-hatchbreak tanking the target's fire, and the cops show up and blow them to hell before you get the cargo.
