If I'm plating without VR, and I often am...

It's because of the boredom factor.

I'm quite literally typing this now while waiting for my ship to supercruise a couple thousand ls to the nearest terminal.

I also multitask while travelling. I spend far more time in cool-down and spin-up than I do actually issuing orders.

I switch out sometimes waiting for spawns as well.

I spend about half my game time not playing the game.

That seems like a design issue.

Got to go. almost there.

I agree.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could go as far as our fuel allowed or "auto-skip" systems between destination with extended time in the "tunnel" instead of having to stop, align with next system hit the FSD and repeat every time? At least we could do something else with the time without having to go through the repetitive jump sequence every few lightyears.

Or, better yet, if we have enough fuel to go, say 75ly, then let us go 75ly without having to stop six times just to go through the dang slow down, turn, align and hit FSD a billion times.

I could see this being necessary if the galaxy were actually alive, but it's not. Every time we enter a system the BGS waits for us to arrive before it decides to start the boiler plate clock work. It's as if FD wants to force us to stop at every system, for whatever reason. I like it to having to stop at every exit along a highway just to get right back on the highway again.

At least we could use the extended time in hyperspace to surf the galaxy map (which would be nice) read up on Galnet or whatever other thing we wanted instead of playing the get off get on the highway game.

It would be especially nice if they threw in a chance of getting knocked out of hyperspace at each system, depending on the type (security, lawless, etc.) and if may, in the future, give us time to walk around our ships without having to essentially park at some system to do so.

I've never understood the having to stop at every dang system as it adds zero value to the game. Explorers could still stop at every system at their leisure and it would remove the mind numbing need to go through the same sequence for no apparent reason in every system.

Now that I think of it, wouldn't it be nice to be able to go as far as your fuel (and careful planning) allowed and the pilot seat turned around to give access to additional screens/menus/features while in our extended hyperspace travels?

I don't see this as an "auto pilot" I see it as an good way to get rid of the useless "drop, flop and go" mechanic that is in place now.

Funny this post is up as I just dropped out of the game because I got sick of doing the god awful billion jumps between systems to get where I'm going. There's no "danger" or reason to force players to do this as there is zero chance of anything, at all, happening while you align to the next target and hit FSD.

Yea. Once I docked: I found the system in lock-down.

I'm not interested in travelling back; so I just quote the game and opened up a different game to finish the night. Maybe it will be better in a couple of days when I can get back online.

Dunno, I like the journey. I enjoy the journeys - different stars, piloting a graceful arc with the Annie, that sort of thing.

Space is a big place, and it should feel big.

Yeah... and this makes the true experience of VR and Elite. My pace has dropped, the experience increased.
Hopefully, we get some more nice scanner mechanics and such things, to add to the variety and gain a little more ingame reward from long range exploration.
