If mining is getting a rethink, why not introduce these existing planetary assets?

Since mining overall is receiving a proposed redesign, we ought not to ignore planetary mining.

I came across this mining farm in the Beta Sculptoris system. At the moment you have to shoot the mining unit to retrieve the mineral or metal (yet another "shoot it to retrieve the item") .....

But since these assets clearly exist already, why not introduce them into proper gameplay on planets? Give us the ability to establish mining farms, go away and come back and farm them later. Or guard them from predators while they 'mature'.

And we shouldn't need to have to shoot them to retrieve the minerals.

Use the existing assets!

Making these placeable would be cool. And also they really ought to be activated by using the Data Scanner, not by shooting them. XD

Data scanner does tell you what is in them....

But yes

FE2/FFE has the MB4 Mining machine which these could clearly be the up to date version of

They do look like they are the correct size to be lowered out a cargo hatch (but I haven't actually checked)

I guess the main hurdle would be once deployed being able to find them again, would player ones exist for that play only as a PoI, probably.
