I like to listen to 80's synth pop/rock or early 90's dance/trance, I like the feeling of listening to older music that was "futuristic" at the time it was released. I'm talking synths and hexagon drums. hahaha

Though I could see myself blowing ships up to an Italian Opera track like im in the mob or something haha

What's all this about the Mob and Opera? Opera can be heavy going but a lot of it is really really good. A good example would be Carmen or La Traviata. Good driving music... hmm, never thought about space driving though, I might give it a go.

its the godfathers fault and also a few other movies I've seen to many times

definitely an option "a bit of everything" missing. Normally I fly in "musical" silence. The game soundtrack is very good, but somehow doesn't do it for me, so I put a couple of different songs on keywords for voice attacks for when I'm in need of a fitting soundtrack.
First of all, there is the classic for hitting Frameshift, Firefly's theme.

Then I have two definitely futuristic tracks : the theme from the Captain Future show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcjhpETolG0) and an old disco tune called "Magic Fly" by a french band called Space (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_ukfGAd8T4). This last one works great for combats by the way :)
The rest of the commands are a mixed bag of country songs (Loretta Lynn's "Fist City" and "Highway Man" by Jennings/Nelson/Cash/Kristopherson), some weird jazz by The Aristocrats and Marco Minneman, some Fields of Nephilim ("Shiva" for flying around and "Phobia" for battles), and "Set the controls for the heart of the Sun" by Pink Floyd (btw ... when do we get the solar scoops??? :D

so yeah .. your poll sadly doesn't cut it for me ;)

(and no.. no Zappa in Space so far:p

I've not played that much, but I absolutely love some of the ingame music. Gives a real sense of promise and adventure.

Cheers, Phos.

Soundtracks should definitely have been in the poll.

Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and some movie sound tracks are what I listen to usually.

My Options aren't really in the poll - it depends on what I do - some classical music (preferrably string quartetts and classical guitar), Enstürzende Neubauten, Tom Waits, Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, Movie Scores, Trip Hop and ambient electronic when just flying around to relax, some NIN, Sisters of Mercy, Laibach for when I'm ambivalent and Punk Rock (ranging from Bad Religion to The Exploited) or Metal (The Mars Volta to Motörhead) when I'm up for a fight.

I don't usually listen to anything but just had the Blade Runner soundtrack running in the background. I've changed my mind about flying silent ...

I usually have music muted, but when I fancy I listen to the in game music and when I fancy something different I listen to the soundtrack from "The Knick" which is awesome.

Ever since Wing Commander Prophecy came out, I've been strictly listening to SHOUTcast Space Station Soma for both studying (back when I did that) and space sims. It's streaming space music.

Check it out and you'll thank me. It's free and works on essentially any player, no questions asked.

Music for Outposts and Spaceports

I used to listen to Soma a lot. Other good space type music - Cluster, 1st/2nd albums, Aphex Twin Ambient works vol I and II, Sunroof!, the NASA Voyager recordings, the two albums by David Sylvian and Holgar Czukay.

I've done a few tracks lately that I've been editing into an hours worth of stuff. Put a couple of tracks up on the ELite SC page and there's a playlist here:

Let us know.

I think one of the equipment upgrades should be an in cockpit pimp my ride sound system that allows me to play MP3s from my media server or tune into internet radio stations.

Would go well with the bobblehead and fluffy dice.
