If Planet Zoo is brought to console edition, do you think Frontier should continue releasing DLCs for both platforms?

With the impending possibility of Frontier releasing Planet Zoo: Console Edition, like with Planet Coaster. With Planet Coaster: Console Edition, the DLCs from the first game were brought in later on. But even with console edition, should Planet Zoo keep going afterwards?

Of course. I don't see that it's likely to happen, but absolutely. .The ride is likely coming to an end in the next year, if not a lot sooner, but I'd really like for it to go for years and years.

Should? No, absolutely not. People talk about development as though it's a magic lamp that you make a wish upon and whatever they want suddenly appears. Frontier is struggling financially and PZ is an old game. If you want Frontier to actually succeed, then you ought to encourage them to move on to new things instead of milking the proverbial malnourished cow this game is becoming. The niche species everyone here likes to put on every wishlist are simply not enough to draw in new players. This is fairly obvious considering that as time has gone by, DLC engagement has shrunken while base game sales have increased or remained steady - the animals that sell are the iconic, classic, famous zoo animals. We're running out of those.

Certainly I wish we had many more years of support ahead, but we just don't, and I can't really blame Frontier for that. In relative terms, this is a very old game now.

What do you mean? Obviously we can’t survive without the absolutely essential animals that have now made the top 10 meta wishlist?! Like the: coati, secretary bird, musk ox, and other amazing animals I know the general public has been dying for!!!!

I’m not being serious lol. As much as I would like some form of dlc to continue, even if it’s mini packs like I’ve mentioned on another thread, I’ll admit we have moved the goalposts so much I think we have lost sight of it all. 3 years ago the kangaroo and African rhino were essential. Basic ABC zoo animals. Now we are arguing about more and more niche animals (as far as the general public is concerned). So yeah things are about to slow down. The only area that can make another pack with more interest is probably a South American one.

Besides, the packs I think could bring people in: aviary and aquatics, aren’t gonna happen.

The coati is definitely an iconic zoo animal, the musk ox and secretary bird were both in Zoo Tycoon 2 which was a very popular game.

I agree they are, but I was speaking through the perspective of the public, and more importantly Frontiers financial teams. Interest in PDLC is going down, and while I agree I love those animals too, let’s not suggest that the goalpost hasn’t been moved since launch. If someone gets their most “essential” animal into the game they usually have another “essential” animal, and this process has continued for years. I’m not arguing that they aren’t cool animals, but a coati is not an iconic zoo animal in the way a lion, tiger, bear, elephant, giraffe, rhino, crocodile, penguin, swan, or flamingo is. While they may be an iconic and essential zoo animals in certain regions of the world, in the end it comes down to public interest and people buying and engaging in DLCs. As much as I would like more dlc, it’s up to Frontier to decide if that’s a sound financial gamble. There just isn’t as much interest as many of the more common species already implemented in game.

They need to keep on releasing them for the new console players sake at least 🤩

I'd rather wish they would take their current Devs (and hire more again) and concentrate fully on an amazing, mindblowing, advanced sequel.
We're well set for the time in between in my opinion. Honestly, I am well set for 10 years, but I still want a sequel in the next 3 years :D

PZ 1 has reached it's limits of what can be added on top. Not because there are no ideas, but because ... It's like you try to knit with 17 different balls of wool. At some point it's just pure chaos and it's easier to start anew then to untangle everything.

Should?... depends on your point of view. I certainly want Frontier to continue to release new DLC, though i think its likely that they won't, given past patterns. On the other hand, from the recent interim report, there's a very interesting graph that i haven't seen a lot of comment on (although, TBH, i've not looked). Specifically the graph below....

The thing i find interesting here is that PZ's cumulative cash flow continues to rise - there's no sign that it's flattening out. An (admittedly slim) possibility is that the console is being released to give a boost to income but that DLC might still be produced...

To be clear, i think this isn't at all likely, but it does give me a (very small) amount of hope that the end might be further away than many of us fear.

Yeah, I saw this graph as well. It gives me hope that perhaps, if it truly is one of the two main money makers last year as their report says that there will be something to keep us going. Even if it's only a 6 month update or just an anniversary update. And .. wishful thinking here .. maybe during the console edition's lifecycle a new feature is created and we get to enjoy it too. But, I will understand if they want to shift their Planet Zoo development staff to the console as a primary target and just keep the PC version alive and kicking and hopefully bug free ( apart from the exhibits of course rofl )

PZ for sure consistent money maker. I think Frontier want "boom" a big lump sum (new game).
