Hi everyone, I'm writing a non-commercial (of course) fan novella for Elite. I converted the first five chapters to .epub so it's an easy read on Aldiko. The android app I use to read e-books. I've also converted it to .MOBI format so anyone who wishes can read it on the kindle. And available to read online here: http://voidofdarkness.wordpress.com/
The Title is "If The Cause Be Just"
Brief synopsis.
Aaron Rayne is just another former Federation Navy Officer turned Freelancer. But when he and his trio of Freelancers are contracted for a job by the leader of a Rebelling Federation frontier system known as Kuyten, they soon become the sector's most wanted.
On the face of it, the job entails a seemingly ordinary data theft. However, unknown to them, they steal something any major power in the galaxy would destroy entire worlds to possess.
Not only must they fight to evade pursuit by relentless Federation and Empire forces across space, they must also unravel the mysteries of their interstellar heist, if they are to have any hope of surviving.
I use Aldiko to read on Android. It's free on the app store AFAIK. http://www.aldiko.com/
You can download the story here and read it with Aldiko on your android device: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wiqcutqvztgzy9c/If_The_Cause_Be_Just_-_Part_1.epub?dl=0
and the Kindle Version here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/94rmkfr4xc43ox9/If_The_Cause_Be_Just_-_Part_1.mobi?dl=0
I'm sorry I couldn't check the kindle (mobi) version, I don't own a kindle. Aldiko(epub) works fine though, for any android tablet!
The MOBI should be fine too as I used the same converter.
Those are the first five chapters of the novel.
EDIT **
Part 2 (next five chapters) (6-10)
- Kindle https://www.dropbox.com/s/zjgrcdqrb6qc1xd/Part_2_-_If_The_Cause_Be_Just.mobi?dl=0
- Aldiko (Android) https://www.dropbox.com/s/jn6nx4qnlrnv8sx/Part_2_-_If_The_Cause_Be_Just.epub?dl=0
The short story once complete (planned 15 chapters and 10 are done now) I will upload it as one whole novel, but for anyone just getting started, part 1 contains the first five chapters and part 2 contains the next 5 chapters.
**
EDIT
I've added the first five chapters to word press for anyone who wants to read them online. Below I'll give a sample of each chapter. Please note that it is fan fic and as such instead of devoting enormous amounts of time to editing prose/style as with the time required for a publication, that usually isn't the case with small fan fiction like this. The focus is on a good story, with good dialogue and likable characters, not trying to compete with Isaac Asimov.
I have however tried and I think I was successful in making this story a 'real' feel to the game itself, the game's atmosphere is present, but told in the context of a story. Interdiction is there, rebooting is there, power management, the back ground, the lore, all as though it was a 'player' you, experiencing the story through the mechanics of the game.
Excerpt
Chapter 1- Aaron Rayne
Chapter 2 - Lee and Alvarez
Chapter 3 - Aaron, Lee and Alvarez
Chapter 4 - The Trap
Chapter 5 - The Sacrifice
The last chapter is first, so the first one is at the bottom of the page.
You can find the full five chapters online here:

Excerpt
Chapter 1- Aaron Rayne
The pilot Butch ‘Big Man’ Gootz had seen it all before. Some hotshot fighter pilot out for an impossible bounty, a lone-wolf hauler who thought he didn’t need protection and even over confident space cops, who believed a badge, a pair of pulse lasers and an F63 Condor fighter could instill cooperation from the sectors deadliest marauders.
Chapter 2 - Lee and Alvarez
Well he had to do it. He just had to open his big undiplomatic mouth. Gunther simply stared open mouthed as the two suspected Federation spooks seemed now to quarrel with each other.
Alvarez drew in a sharp breath and let it out slowly, jamming a thumb towards the big merchant. “You know he’s huge right. A rare specimen this one.”
Lee shrugged. “Yeah, dumb as he is huge. So what,” he said, looking over their potential opponent. “We can take him. He’ll tire quick.”
Chapter 3 - Aaron, Lee and Alvarez
Aaron considered them both for a moment. “Think about it gentlemen. What’s the best way to secure a sensitive package? You pretend it doesn’t exist, and don’t draw too much attention to yourself. The Feds think there’s no way anyone could know about this transfer. I’m thinking some high level spy must have provided this one. But I don’t care how they got wind of the transfer and I’m not asking, cause we don’t need to know.”
Chapter 4 - The Trap
The pursuing Adder banked around the asteroid closing on their former position, as Aaron burned the little skiff away in a non-deviating escape vector. As the Adder came within a few klicks of their former position, Aaron triggered the remote detonation on the missiles. The destructive force of the combined missiles at such proximity, against the Adder’s weak shields, scattered the vessel’s hull into a million pieces across the void. The explosion flashing brilliantly white only for a moment before fading to black.
Chapter 5 - The Sacrifice
A fierce battle blazed all around them. The usually serene blackness of space permeated now with pulse lasers criss-crossing the void, intermixed with relentless beam lasers, and point defense explosions. Fighters zipped and swooped between several larger combatants. An Anaconda class vessel with her three Cobra escorts, faced off against two Federal Corvettes and their small compliment of Condor fighters. The Anaconda was a large multi-purpose vessel, versatile and capable of deployment in many roles. Many system navies used them as frigates and Aaron recognized this one as Hobbes’ flagship Serenity’s Light.
