PvP If the Phantom is the statistically inferior fighter to the MK2, why are so many Cmdrs flying it?

When do people realise, that the Krait MK.II has only a MLF of 16?
I don't know of the Phantom yet but none of them has 17!! My Python can easily low-wake from them which wouldn't be the case when sharing MLF.
Sadly i'm on work but maybe i can share later a screenshot. I was in a Cobra MK.IV and tried low waking from a Krait MK.II and the game said definitly 16 MLF!!

Beside combat, the Krait Phantom is a superior explorer. Cheap and can take all modules perfectly fitted for guardian research:

I would kindly remind thats is a PVP related thread, lol. OP aint askin how good phantom is as explorer but why is so good in PVP, or I missing something.

Nope, please have a look at this thread (with screenshots): https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/474999

TLDR:
Python MLF = 17
Krait MK2 MLF = 16
Krait Phantom MLF = 14

Coriolis and edshipyard both have their numbers wrong.

Oh, so thats it. Never tried to low-wake from these anyway, lol. I guess I was fooled by corolis, my bad. I take it back for first disagree before, and give u a credit, but still holds second opinion of ealier, with speed thing.

Is that so? Never tested how roughly in miliseconds boost are in kraits, for me it always felt like about 3 seconds for both of kraits. Still, I dont think that phantom got any longer boost than mk.II version.

I was using the spreadsheet found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...lite_dangerous_ship_acceleration_and_agility/

I don't know if Phantom stats got tweaked after that. Haven't flown one myself (no SLF, no deal) so I couldn't say if it's accurate for the newest ships.

The phantom is significantly faster than the MK2. My builds: Mk2 (boost 535), Phantom (boost 570). With 1 less class 3 HP, the phantom is even easier on the pip management than the MK2. Lazy 4/1/1 combat with near endless boosting.

6.5% faster... wouldn't really want to call that significant, tbh :)

I've tried both, but can't say the speed advantage is worth sacrificing a C3 hardpoint and the fighter, which is basically another flying C3 hardpoint ;)
Apart from the considerably lower firepower and slightly higher speed, the Phantom handles virtually exactly like the MK2.

Hopefully FD will release a medium imperial ship with similar internals soon, so I can re-use my Combat Phantom's modules for it :D

In PvP that 6.5% difference can be quite significant! Most of the meta ships (FDL, FAS, Chieftain, Challenger, Krait MK II) are all hovering around 550 boost speed, give or take a few depending on ship and build. Once you cross the 570+ range you definitely feel the difference, and have the ability to control the engagement, or disengage if needed.

You can squeeze the firepower of the C7 distro into those 4 hardpoints with ease. Also the phantom is faster and I like to be able to catch up with meta FDLs that still believe they can onetrick everyone. Also, it has access to a really nice manouver :p
For firepower I'd use the Krait though. 5 HPs and a fighter ez. That's especially fun if you are having 4 of them in a wing. That's basically 160 DPS from the fighters alone, so one extrs Krait on top :D

Couldn't have said it better myself. I see many PvP situations where that 35m/s difference is the difference between escaping and the rebuy screen.
