If there were Forums for Elite in 1984

Looking through the topics today I was struck by that thought. Imagine the topics.
"Docking is impossible!"
"This game makes no sense there is no score!"
"How do you win?"
Sorry I just couldn't help sharing that thought.Carry on.
Would be more like...
"Oh my god! 3D Vector Graphics!"
"All this in 24k"
"Whoa, that one has eight sides! Wonder what it does..."

Sure there's a score. It's your player rating, up to you reach "Elite."
Everything in the game is there just to help you get there. HOW you do it is up to the player. I think that's what confuses people, but is what makes Elite games different. There's no finish line, no plot to follow, no one to tell you how to win. Just like life, you have to find your own purpose in the Elite verse.

My opening topic would have been, How do you initiate a jump to Witchspace?
On the Beeb it was something like holding down Control and C while jumping, wasn't it?
What we DID have in '84 was the Mad Hatter's Elite column in BBC Micro user. Players would write in claiming to have seen all sorts of weird and wonderful things (Generation ships in galaxy 3! Dredgers in galaxy 8!) etc., as well as useful real stuff like lucrative trade routes etc.
No other game garnered its own long running column like that... really made you feel part of a wider community.
Whatever happened to the Mad Hatter - is he perhaps here, amongst us? Be good to hear from him again..
