If you could change 1 thing...

Just a random banter thread, before I get started.
NOT an "I want this!" thread!

If you could upgrade or change 1 thing on your favourite ship to improve it, and 1 downgrade to rebalance it, what would it be, and why?

I'll start with probably the most obvious choice, the Fer De Lance!

My upgrade would be a Class 5 FSD!
My downgrade would be either;
A smaller power plant
Swap the class 4 hardpoint to a class 3
Or both. Lol

Mainly because I love flying my FDL, but long distance can be a huge downer. I also never use the huge hardpoint. Lol may change in 2.1 though!

Despite this, once I return from Sag A in my Python, I may attempt to take my FDL out there! (After a break from exploration!)

What would you sacrifice to gain something you feel your ship needs?

I'd be happy with a higher speed or jump range in my Python. I find the Conda a little boring but the Python isn't a lot faster, and it should be with the way it looks.

I would give the Corvette a Class 7 FSD and replace the class 1 hardpoints with Class 2.
I would restrict the modules you can equip in the Corvette's internal slots. The only things that you could equip in the class 6 and class 7 slots would be combat equipment: shields, HRP, SCB, and hangars for fighters. No more cargo corvettes. Combat use only.

Edit: Restricting internal slots to certain modules is possible within the game. Check out the Orca. Only cargo racks and HRP can be fitted for the largest two internals.

My Clipper needs just one thing and it will be my perfect ship.

I'd change the scanning of planets so that it gave details on the screen as you scanned of details about the planet so you don't have to go to the system map.

So scanning is more granular instead of an all or nothing, and credits/data are awarded longer you scan until complete.

Something like:

1 second: Planet type
2 seconds: Surface Gravity
3 seconds: Atmospheric composition
etc....

I would remove ALL hardpoints from Courier. Reduce size of all internals and modules just enough to power best thrusters. Strip every last bit of armor that's left to make it even lighter. I would like it to be absolute speed demon, and totally mental canyon runner and racer. Is this too much to ask? :D

This and have different ratings of Advanced Discovery scanner and Detailed Surface scanner to speed up the scan, trade off is weight and power (well and cost). I hate losing jump range but for some reason the scan time was annoying me last night.

I wonder what the small ships are going to be like when they get the improved engines in 2.1/1.6. Really hoping they'll be canyon runner beasts :D

I'd increase the supercruise turning rate of my Anaconda. I'd give up some internal compartments, or just make SC agility dependant on ship mass to some degree so it balances itself.

I'd trade shield strength of Corvette for 2.5x more armour. Like 350 basic shield strenght for 1500 armour (lightweight one).

I'd make a bigger, slower n more expensive T-9 just to have max 1032 cargo with another C6 slot for shield.. :D

I would remove the window beams on the FDL which would obviously increase its speed and jump range.

Wow you are very easily distracted. I have never even once been bothered or even noticed the widow frames during combat. I notice the A pillars in my car more when driving day to day!

There's a lot wasted when you put a size one module in larger slots (scanners, autopilot) so on ships which don't have 2 or more size one Internal slots I'd break up the smallest Internal slot into several size ones. That, or allow two size one modules to be fitted in a size two slot.

Yeah, this. I'm kinda hoping that it's a service the Engineers will offer -- to allow you to move your modules around to use the available space more efficiently.

Failing that, an additional slot in the DBE would be nice...
