If you could take the next X months off - would you wipe today and go for the tripple Elite contest?

It's the Journey in life....
Not the destination, that matters..

I would come back as a Common Buzzard....
Impossible I know but, Thanks for asking,,,

Not a chance. I have a job, I play games for entertainment. Turning games into a second job would ruin it for me, and yes I think its way too late to have an opportunity to win starting from scratch today.

Not to mention my job pays better anyway. If someone has literally so little life that they can devote themselves to nothing but Elite Dangerous and neglect everything/everyone else in their life for months on end for the remote possibility of winning 15,000 bucks then more power to them because they're going to be competing against a helluva lot of other basement dwellers for the title.

You are of course right in saying it might not be worth it and doing other things in that time might be more fun, just like playing casually would be much more fun. But besides that, would you reckon you technically had more than a snowballs chance in hell at winning, seeing that the contest has been going for 3 weeks?

Got to have the 'I'm rich and anybody competing is a basement dweller' post for it to be a real competition.

(I think taking months off to devote to this inane competition is similarly inane.. if you want an answer)

Anyone who is competing and not basement dwelling...isn't really competing. :p

Well...I would say you have more than a snowball's chance in hell at winning, depending on how willing you are to neglect your personal health and well-being. That would probably make up for the 3 week headstart.

I am currently in between jobs, but No
I wiped the Sunday before launch too, so little could have stopped me wiping 3 days later and giving it a go aside from the idea that 12 hours a day gaming would be murder for my health. It is summer here in New Zealand, and I have spend more time at the beach swimming than playing games, painting the house, time at the range, even fixed my Enfield Mk 2.
Not worth giving up for a change at a thousand quid

That post definately looks a bit suspicious. 414 bounties doesn't sound anywhere near close to Elite rank. If the numbers are similar to previous Elite games, the number of kills needed doubles every rank. So it should be something like this:

50 = mostly harmless
150 = novice
350 = competant
750 = umm, next rank :)

and so on.

Unless they have started counting combat bond kills towards your rank, which they never did in the past.

I think maybe you missed the part about the 6000+ combat bonds. He did most of his ranking in conflict zones according to his spreadsheet tracking his progress. Whether or not hes legit, well we will just have to wait and see what Frontier says about it.

Yes I did miss it. Corrected my previous post.

I am still on the fence, it would be great to have some sense how far others have come to see if it is still possible to catch up.
