If you had a ship that could fly at 200ly per second, what would you do?

Imagine ED implemented a FSD that let you reach speeds of 200ly/s (forget hyperspace), and implemented other galaxies, billions of them, with all known galaxies plus procedural ones for billions of light years.

As explorers, I pose this question to you. What would you do? Would you say goodbye to the bubble forever and head out without ever turning back? Would you go on short tours of local galaxies? Would you set out for x number of months/years to see specific galaxies?

Here's a video, where I reach about 128ly/s in Space Engine, to give you a feel:

p.s. I am a mod but I have no inside knowledge to ED, don't presume I am hinting at something - I am not. Purely curiosity.

i assume you are talking about, "what would you do ingame?". for me it wouldn't change that much. after an initial trip to somewhere where i could see our galaxy from the outside (even more mindblowing then being on the highest point above sag a* i guess), I'd explore.

for me it isn't much of a difference doing that 1500 ly or 15 k ly from sol - i find beautifull and interesting systems everywhere. i assume it would be as beautiful 1500 k ly away.

That would depend on what content FDev put into those Distant Galaxies. Are they exactly the same as the Milky Way but different procedural systems? Are there discoveries to make specific to those galaxies? Could you find new and interesting nebulas? Planets of intriguing colors? The potential would be enormous, but if that potential was unused and wasted, and if these new galaxies were just like the Milky Way, then what would be the point?

But yeah, sure, I’d like to visit other galaxies, lol!

I think it'd be more interesting if the way to such galaxies was provided by means of worm holes that you had to discover in the Milky Way galaxy.. That would mean that explorers could search for the worm holes and map them etc.. It might also be cool if worm holes couldn't get you that far.. so that in order to reach really distant places you had to find more worm holes in the already known galaxies.. But yes, there would have to be stuff you could find in these galaxies.. At the very least, exploration data from them should be very valuable.

it would be a hell of a nicer way to travel between stars than jump - witch-space - next star - jump - witch-space etc

p.s great video

I would check out as many supermassive blackholes from the other galaxies' cores as possible and be on the lookout for other anomalies and phenomenal looking gas clouds and nebulae!
I would try to leave our local cluster and see where the bands of galaxies lead me! <3

Cheers,
Greytest

Well, considering the fact that I tend to spend weeks exploring only one among the smallest globular cluster in SE, I'd probably do the same in ED. They are indeed fascinating.

BTW wonderful vids as usual Dr. Kaii, thanks; I'm out of rep points at the moment, though :)

I guess you would pretty much run out of map; unless FD has some plan to add maps of other galaxies in our local cluster.

In the original Elite's you could (eventually) update your ship to a jump drive system allowing you to jump to whole new areas of space.

Jumping to other galaxies? Yes that would be cool. Given the size of one galaxy map alone I think FD may need a few more servers to cope with the data needed.

I'm ready to go there...........

You don't need self-advertisement, James ;)
I do! But also, serious question

Well the other galaxies would work the same way, but they'd be different. Galaxies come in so many different shapes and sizes, it would just add fascination to space in the same way it is fun to go to the core, for a different "view"

I suppose that it might be interesting to visit galaxies such as Centaurus A, Messier 82 or NGC 1277, just to name few.

Yep, I remember that in the original Elite. The galaxies were much smaller then though, lol. :D
