I thought hermit crab cannot last or breed in captivities. Was my reply true?

Oh I didn't know that. I've seen them at least once in zoos, but not sure if they're being bred. If not, I might consider another species.

While it still isn't that common, land hermit crabs have definitely been bred in captivity before (see below):

Even if they hadn't, it doesn't seem to be a prerequisite for an exhibit animal to be able to be bred in captivity to be included in the game. I don't think the goliath frog has ever been successfully bred in captivity before and nobody has ever seen the larvae of a titan beetle before, even in the wild.

If I had to choose twenty vivarium species for Planet Zoo, they would be:
1. Ocellated lizard Timon lepidus (Near Threatened), Europe - Arid display
2. Psychedelic rock gecko Cnemaspis psychedelica (Endangered), Asia - Tropical display
3. Veiled chameleon Chamaeleo calyptratus (Least Concern), Asia - Tropical display
4. Saharan spinytail lizard Uromastyx geyri (Near Threatened), Africa - Arid display
5. King cobra Ophiophagus hannah (Vulnerable), Asia - Tropical display
6. Yellow lipped sea krait Laticauda colubrina (Least Concern), Asia/Oceania - Aquatic display
7. Cuban boa Chilabothrus angulifer (Near Threatened), Central America - Tropical display
8. Sinaloan milk snake Lampropeltis triangulum sinaloae (Least Concern), North America - Arid display
9. Pancake tortoise Malacochersus tornieri (Critically Endangered), Africa - Arid display
10. Panamanian golden frog Atelopus zeteki (Critically Endangered), Central America - Tropical display
11. Kihansi spray toad Nectophrynoides asperginis (Extinct in the Wild), Africa - Tropical display

Could hermit crabs survive or breed in captivities?

I have broken the rules a bit including small animals that would need more space, like bats. I don't know how the game might include these creatures, they seem like they'd need something between habitat and exhibit cube- but I'm gonna include them anyway :p

1) Whip Scorpion
2) Chinchilla - cute and interesting high altitude mammal
3) Hermit crab- breeding them is supremely difficult but it could spread a lot of awareness about the exotic pet trade and removing animals from the wild having an effect on population
4) Bellinger river turtle - critically endangered and known to breed in captivity
5) Jerboa
6) Some kind of termite farm- I don't know if this is possible in reality, but it would be fascinating and educational, to show what other zoo animals like chimps and anteaters eat in the wild
7) Electric eels! Always a favorite
8) Walking fish/Mudskipper
9) Green tree viper
10) Sand boa - cute as heck and a snake that gives birth to live young instead of laying eggs
11) Luna moths - perhaps a butterfly house could be added in-game with several species
12) Fruit bats
13) Suriname toad - the one whose babies come out of holes on its back
14) Whip spider - I just remembered there are both scoprs and spids in the whip variety.
15) Potoo
16) Honduran white bat- cutest bat, full stop
17) Trap door spider
18) Leaf bugs
19) Stick bugs
20) Some cave creature, perhaps one of those fish that has lost need for eyeballs

  1. King Cobra
  2. Indian Cobra
  3. Frilled-necked lizard
  4. Inland Taipan
  5. Indian Star Tortoise
  6. Radiated Tortoise
  7. Chinese Softshell Turtle

  9. Death Stalker Scorpion
  10. Sydney Funnel-web Spider

  12. Eastern Coral Snake
  13. Jackson's Chameleon

  15. Wood Frog
