General / Off-Topic If you made a sphere of all Earth’s water, how big would it be?

To me this was utterly surprising. I couldn't believe it.

Not really surprising, if you think about it a bit. :)
Earth is roughly 6000 km in radius.
All the water evenly distributed would be about 2 km thick cover, and even that may be a generous estimate.
Gather all the water in a ball, the ball won't be very large compared to Earth.

I like the little bubble (next to the big one ) which represents the fresh water.

And the third lower case which represents only the fresh water of all the lakes and rivers on the planet.

Makes aware of overconsumption, intensive watering, private swimming pool, car washing etc ...

Yup, Earth is just merely wet on the surface :)

There may still be much more water locked up in Earth's deeper geology than there is in that sphere that represents all the surface and ground water on the planet.

Yeah, not surprising to me either. Life is literally a greasy film on a ball. It's like when you pick up a rock and there's a bit of lichen over it. And people still keep thinking we can't affect the bits we need to live on with our screwups.

If the Earth was the size of a tennis ball and you grabbed it, the amount of water on it would be so small that it wouldn't even feel wet. :)

Also, another fun fact - The Europa very probably has almost twice as much water as Earth overall.

does that included the ice cap's
Ice caps and glaciers only amount for about 2% of Earth's water. So it's wouldn't really be noticeable on that graphic representation.

And yet, if you where to concentrate the whole human population in one place, you could make it fit in a surface not bigger than the city of LA. 🤷‍♂️

A drama here. Not for the human this criminal, but for the nature, for the planet.

Nature is resilient. If we destroy our environment and go extinct, nature will go on.
Many creatures can survive in conditions that would kill us.
Nature will create something new after the biggest pest on the planet has destroyed itself.
Humans can not extinguish nature.
