IF you self-destruct do you lose your superior ship?

Hi

Do you have to start back at the beginning with a sidewinder if you self destruct in a superior ship? If so I think its a bit harsh, as I've lost hours of playtime getting my viper only to make one mistake and lose the hard work I put in and end up with a croppy sidewinder again.

Ok I'm gormless, I made the mistake but will leave the game for abit because I cant be putting all the effort to gear up again.

Has anyone else experienced this?

If they've not used the insurance mechanic before then it's unlikely that their insurance will be greater than the 200k loan ... so OP you should be fine.

Ships have insurance, it will ask you if you want to spend 10% of your lost ships value in order to get it back. Or you can just take the free sidewinder. Big screen pops up when your ship gets destroyed asking you what you want to pay to get back.

When your ship is destroyed you can buy back an identical copy of your ship, equipment and all for a fee, the fee is a percentage of the ship and equipments original purchase price. If you dont have enough credits in your account, you will be given a loan up to 200k to pay for the ship, but it is possible to skip this and start in a free sidewinder. Any loans are paid back automatically any time you make credits in game, a percentage is taken off until the loan is paid.

As the others have mentioned there is an insurance system that will allow you to buy back your old ship and modules at roughly 5% of it's value. There's a payout figure in your statistics screen. This is a good time to mention an expression common in space sims - don't fly what you can't afford to lose. In other words always have enough cash in the bank to buy your ship back. There is a creditor who will loan you up to 200000cr to pay for insurance, but be aware that if you need it, it will also be paying out all your fines and bounties too. If you've gotten yourself half a million credits bounty for crimes, and your ship's gonna cost 450000 for the insurance, and your balance is only 20000 you have no choice but to go back to a sidewinder or declare bankruptcy. They try to help you out but you ARE required to manage your money a bit.

Thanks for the replies. I should have mentioned the window with the option to pay the insurance for the viper did not appear. I've died a few times in dogfights and am aware of the insurance premiums and choice to pay or go back to a sidewinder.

After running out of fuel and pressing the self destruct I got a message to say I had been destroyed and the next screen I was 70 light years fom my destination in sidewinder at my starter base.

I've logged a ticket anyway and see if support know what the crack is.

I am pretty sure that your respawn location is locked to the last station you docked at.

So 70 ly sounds ok... Why you couldn't buy our old loadout, I have no idea. It's an old old bug that apparantly should have been fixed a while back.
