If you sell an engineered ship, do you get the engineer-materials back?

No but I do feel like having seen this post maybe even just 10% of the materials return would be something. I am on the fence a little about this but I can understand why players would want materials returned. Though this kind of creates a mini loop of infinite materials because if you re-engineer chances are you'll go for the same things again same materials.

I normally just store modules as the 4a and 5a FSDs for example are hot swappable between most small and medium ships.

From a story or lore point of view though the materials used like the guy said above are moulded, melted, cooked and used in certain ways.

So how about this. Yes, your scenario, but then...

OK, another theory: what if the materials are not components for the upgrade but its price. We are not paying money for engineers' job, and also there's no way to buy materials in the Galaxy, so they make upgrades to get the materials... Marco Qwent could need the materials to fortify its base against star radiation, professor Palin could use them for some researches...

Anyway seems there's something with your expectations. I can understand you[noob]. Some time ago I was thinking like "I need this and as fast as possible", and any additional movements were irritating. But, wait, these extra movements are also part of this game. I thought that it would be nice just to buy everything, "I can do bounty hunting getting millions in an hour, why can't I just pay that money to get upgrades? Why would I need to bother collecting stones? Why I can't get any upgrade in closest station?".. But what gameplay I would have in the case? Just pew-pew all the time. This is fun indeed, but time from time something different is really required. It is possible to get bored even from fun pew-pew stuff.

You've collected materials once, it is expected that you've learned where and how. Second time you should do it faster. Set a goal for yourself to get 100 units of extra rare material, this is a puzzle how to get them, try to solve it, build theories, test them, make conclusions. I guess it is better than complaining that there's no logic in the game, everything is broken and it is impossible. This is not as bored as it seems: it is possible "to fall asleep" in a center of combat zone doing elite mission because of monotony, trust me[yesnod].

I get it, you don't want it people having extra materials. No probs :) I don't have a problem gathering materials, I don't even need any right now, but I'm all for adding gameplay and making it less painful. FD would seem to agree, since USSes are a point of focus for chapter 4. :)

If you sell an engineered ship, do you get the engineer-materials back? If not, can you reverse-engineer the modules before selling the ship?

No and no :(

I really wish we could reverse engineered modules one day considering that there are engineered modules you may not need to use anymore and it feels stupid to sell these modules considering how much time you have spent on these, it also feels unnecessary to use many ships as extra storage space for only engineered modules.

I really wish we could clean our stored modules and shipyard one day ;)

There is "Remove Modifications" function as I recall...

I do think selling an Engineered module should actually increase the module's value, since modules sell for the same as their purchase price.
It would not have to be an exceptionally high value, just some additional value. But don't get me started on all the things Engineering could have been, should have been... there are not enough pages in the forum.
