IGN Elite: Dangerous stream 16:20 CET/15:20 BST today

Well people said it looked boring and complained why nobody made good games anymore. There were also price complaints as people focused on the beta price only. Hopefully the comments were from console YOLOs.

The first complaint I hear from other potential players is the price "for testing a game." Those who understand about Kickstarter backing get it once it's explained to them, but there are plenty who don't.

I think the majority of people will find it boring, the majority of people are not very bright though, so there is no real surprise.
People mouthing off in chat is largely irrelevant innit.

This.

As I have thought about this more, really the comment shows someone that has not done any reflection at all and is just spouting.

Consider that every single game is boring after a short while. Chess; plays the same every time, checkers, even worse. FPS games - all identical basically, run, gun, die on 10 maps with 10 weapon choices and then turn to modding to keep up your interest. Story driven games, fun for a while but being driven down a rail for 20 hours wears thin and when the game is over is it replayable? Other forms of entertainment: movies- good for 2 hours and at most 3 viewings for the absolute best ones; books- put you to sleep but maybe 6 hours enjoyment for a long one. Riding a bike - more than an hour only for the dedicated. ETC.

So really, this type of comment is quite odd.

Some games with mechanics like Chess or RTS games have more replay value or staying power over time. Elite has such long-term promise to hold my interest and offer new experiences in the game world for at least several years, which I really like. Needn't play it every day. Pick it up after a couple of months and visit a new station, see what has happened in the Persistent Universe, nice.

Great stream.

Have to say Kerrash did fanastic job. Amazing scenery, i think that is great promo for the game.

I'll be honest, the guy from IGN sounds a little bored. But I don't care what others think. The space sim is a very niche genre, so not everyone will be interested.

Both Kerrash and David Braben himself did a great job promoting the game. :)

Take heart. The comments posted under the video are (currently) overwhelmingly positive. It's not surprising that kids waiting to have the latest brown cover shooter games marketed to them were less impressed in the live chat. It's exactly the reason this game was crowd funded and exactly why it wasn't immediately understood by the likes of Thorn EMI 30 years ago.

Hush kiddies, the grown up gamers are back

Well said but I hope 'grown up gamers' also refers to the more sensible and mature younger players too. :)

I thought they'd be using the build shown in the Newsletter, and they are not (hint: compass position).

Remember, they were flying live with other players. Not much you can change...also last minute build testing ends up with CTD in a front of audience. Not good thing if you plan to release in 4 months.
