"Ignore This Thread" Best. Forum. Feature. Ever.

How have I survived these forums for 2½ years and not noticed this option?!?

As soon as I see all caps in a thread title, or a new* whine thread about Shallowness, Engineers, or Power Play, away the thread goes. Forever. I'm so much happier and only wish I had discovered it sooner. Like when Möbius was infiltrated, or Hutton Orbital landing pads were blocked, or Salome was killed.

If you find these forums getting you down or frustrated with the game, just hit that "Ignore This Thread" option and you'll immediately feel better.

You can thank me later.

* It's not new. People have been whining about those since inception and they won't change. Get over it.

It's on my personal list of best QoL forum features, but not #1. I literally only made an account to be able to switch off people's obnoxious signatures.

#1 is of course playing the game instead of bothering with the forum :)

I have one person on ignore, his whiteKnightness got the better of me and I gave in to using the ignore function. Normally and with threads I just either ignore the content once I see it's something I have no interest in or the users posts when I see the name. I even leave some threads well alone for a while after just reading the titles.

All though I do have the Xbox section on ignore, that was after a thread where someone in there got so far up his own backside Im sure he was cleaning his teeth with his tongue, and I dont own a Xbox, saying that the chaps over in the PS section have been all ok thus far, and no I dont own a PS.

I actually use this frequently on very active threads I have no further interest in.

Not to feel better but to see more new/interesting threads instead of letting that get pushed out of view by stuff I've already seen.

I don't need a forum feature to skip threads i don't want to read, i'm perfectly able to decide that all by myself.:)

It's very useful to keep the limited lists of threads you can view at one time filled with stuff you want to see or have not seen yet.

Imagine the amount of interesting threads per page going from 10% to 50%. Suddenly you can just view one page instead of 5.

I the traffic on this forum ever increases to such levels that i loose track, i will reconsider.

I'm floored. Had no idea you could do this. My perusal of the Frontier Forums is about to get so much more cheerful.

The problem with this feature is that it doesn't work if you bookmark or otherwise jump straight to individual forums or subforums, which is how I've been reading the forums since I started. It does work with the New Posts / Today's Posts features, but those pages mash all of the active threads from various subforums into a melange that I find more distracting than having to manually skip threads.

Years ago there was a forum feature, buried in the options at the foot of each page, to make the Ignore feature work globally. But it was removed and never reinstated for some reason.

I play Elite:Dangerous, warts and all and prefer not to stick my head in the sand hoping all the bad things will go away. I do however pick and chose which threads to take part in. Ignoring another's point of view does nothing except keep you ignorant and in the dark as to the possible good suggestions that come as a reply to a posters issues.

You cannot ignore a thread without having seen it first ... and it's not hoping that "bad things will go away". It's adjusting your feed to what you will actually continue to read.

One only partakes in threads in which the topic is actually of some interest. Anything pvp related...not even a single comment from me because I literally have no interest whatsoever. I dont comment on pp, rngeers etc because I have no interest in those...the threads aint on an ignore function because theres no need.

That being said, when I do comment on a thread, chances are its very relevant to me and Ill fight my corner. Fairly sure Im on a few ignore lists but heres the thing...I dont really care. At all...it is what it is and those options exist fer a reason. Glad to see the op understands the reason well ^
