Why not if ya ask me. WT is competitive mp focused game with bloody tiers and unlocks and gold ammo yuck. We need similar game for SP folks with out this nonsense. Eagerly waiting how this will turn out. Especially coz it will have fps perspective from the tanks.

I think you just described World War 2 Online :)

If anyone tried to play on the tactical maps server MP, you will know this is a great feature, I love to fly, but there is something about driving a tank a smash through enemy lines,
while your mates, lurking from above.

That's World of Tanks, is it not? I'm not aware of Gold ammo in War Thunder. So far, at least. It's good fun for the occasional sim-ish blasting and the game itself has a good amount of depth and complexity despite its f2p shenanigans and the pay/grind wall that sets in around the middle of a tech tree.

@Lysan: I'm looking forward to the Flying Circus and Bodenplatte expansions more tbh., but if done right, the there could be great combined arms missions coming from the tank expansion.

Flying circus will be better graphics, but the FM will be the same, and there will be less of everything, so ROF will still be the get go for a long time still.

I know, saw the dev blog entry. But really, the FM imo feels excellent to begin with and while the few plane models aren't substantially updated beyond texturing, the improved environmental visuals ought to help it feel new. The announced plane set also sounds like a "best of fighter" list, so despite the lack of substantial content, I expect there to be something to enjoy, at least for multiplayer purposes.

I've bought everything else from BoS to BoM and Kuban including the upcoming Bodenplatte along with most of the collector planes, no doubt I'll add the Tanks DLC too since the history of armoured warfare runs in my blood a bit.

Unfortunately, I can't see me adding Flying Circus...or not at least until the possibility of expanding the project a bit to cover the entire WWI period with aircraft to suit becomes more possible.

The only reason for this is that RoF is still way too good to abandon it for a 'lite' version with prettier graphics...

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to get it, it's just at current intention for FC we will be just as good keeping ROF as it will be the same same just prettier.

Not to forget the added bonus of lower hardware requirements and low entry peice! I'm with you though, nothing wrong with keeping the older sims. Same goes for Il2 1946, even though it's a lot more archaic than RoF. It'll be many years before BoX can even approach its selection of planes, theaters and content. So long as one can overlook its dated nature.

IL2-1946 with its mods will stay around for at least another 10 years. The same goes with IL2- Cliffs of Dover specially now as 1C games has given the source code to Team Fusion who will develop more stuff for the game.

Also IL2 regardless of version was always good for some nice videos.

Don't know about the tanks but picked up BoS on the cheap at the weekend. Haven't flown ww2 birds since Il-2 1946 as I'm mostly flying helos in DCS/X-Plane, some jets every now and then to break the monotony, and occasionally the RoF oldies.

Still, didn't expect things could be that rough... The Yak-1 is utterly diabolical to taxi. And this isn't helped by the abysmal default control layout. BoS is a legitimate descendant of the old Il-2 in that regards... Awfully empty default hotas controls, ugh.

Things are far better once aligned on the runway, but boy, is it rough getting there!

Rudders?

Combination of rudder and brakes, the differential brakes on those soviet airplanes being apparently tied to the rudder. I can reach the runway sort of cleanly now, as long as I manage the wide turns. If I miss one and need to unlock the tail wheel for a tighter turn, I'm good for a few unintentional donuts on the taxiway. [noob]

In real life these airplanes are difficult to taxi, never tried a warbird however I've tried a tail steered airplane along time ago, and it was hard as heck to taxi.
