I'll be honest here, this isn't what I wanted.

I wanted EvE Online, with smaller scale manual skill-based combat. Which means the core elements of player interactivity, player influence (crafting and owning your own stations and systems) is missing. What is here is a beautifully rendered single player space trading simulator with amazing (but pointless) combat and amazing (but pointless) exploration.

ED is amazing at what it does, but it really doesn't do what I thought it was about. Though that is my fault for not researching it enough. To those who can enjoy a game that really isn't about affecting the galaxy directly or interacting with other players, I hope you have a lot of fun. It just isn't for me, and I have to say I am a bit depressed on that. I got far too excited, far too quickly.

It hasn't even been a month, If you give this game some time and allow for some future expansion and features to be implemented you'll soon see an amazing game that is being molded. Not to mention starting now so you can be apart of it all as you and the galaxy grows and changes.

Or that's what we're hoping, at least. I've seen a lot of game releases and a lot of promises made, and often enough, games never get improved to the point that you can, in retrospect, say, that they really kept their promises and turned into what they were supposed to be.

I hope that the expansion packs will fill it with life. I returned to play the final release but it's still like... I don't know, half a year ago. Dead empty space.
I have no idea what the exploration or conflict is about - it's lifeless and repetitive.
You summed it up nicely - it's probably a space trading simulator. And single player at that. Even in open I have yet to see a single cmdr... that's just crazy.

They could literally shrink the size by 100000 and maybe, just maybe, interactions would develop. But then again, with the current comm implementation I doubt things would be meaningful. I mean, what's there to do? Fly next to each other while hauling beer? Or maybe gank a few fresh sidewinders in A grade vipobras?
I'm really hoping to see something regarding the scope of the DLC. And I hope it's not just another mega creep feature like planet side landing on empty dustballs. I'm hoping for something that makes it a game and not just a 3D engine for an Excel spreadsheet simulator.

Fair enough.
I think there will be much more interaction with the galaxy and other players when they flesh things out a bit - the faction system combined with persistent NPCs and wings has a lot of potential. But it's never going to be EVE with a joystick.. never was going to be. Not that that would be a bad thing, but it's not Elite.

Well, everybody has different hopes. Planetary landing is #1 on my list after fixing the missing glitches in what is already here. And I do enjoying the game and I'm really happy it has nothing to do with EVE online.

I doubt the galaxy will grow. What for?
Also I doubt anything will happen "soon".

That said I believe what they need most, if they want to improve the game, is being reminded again and again of what is not good about the game. Yes, the ship sound design is nice and the game looks okay - but it's lifeless and dead. I'm actually surprised by how little has changed during the months I didn't play.

15 years ago David promised us Elite 4, Elite 4 is here

the Dev's are currently guzzling gallons and gallons of Red Bull so by the end of next month the game should have wings as well as improvements to the com system and player cooperation, EVE didn't have half the content it has today when it was first released, ED is the same. they released a foundation that they can and will build on.

And it is Elite 4. It feels like Elite, as it should, and doesn't feel like EvE, as it should. I went through all the professions and bounty hunting it just the most rewarding gaming-wise and credit-wise for me. I do itwith a couple of mates and it's great. The game will be expanded upon of course, but in the mean time I'm pretty much having a blast, despite all the silly bugs.

I am sorry that the game disappointed you, I have also been in that position before. However I feel this game is pretty cool, I have sunk hundreds maybe even thousands of hours into it since Premium Beta, and I still enjoy it. I personally think from my time on the forums that developers have intentionally stayed away from making this game EVE like. Elite isn't about you being a galactic super power, it's more about you being a mere spec in the cosmic dust of our galaxy.

I do feel that there is still room for improvement, and believe that FD will continue to push their bigger and better ideas out into the world as both free content updates, and as paid full expansions. Perhaps in a few months you will be able to come back and enjoy the game more.

Point is, that in rush to gain xmas money, they deployed thing, that is boring for many people, and game reputation is going down. In next few months many people will forget about this game, or will not trust it anymore.

Massive overstatement here. Maybe this applies to you, but the game is being well received by all the major review platforms and is even doing well in the notoriously negative metacritic user ratings. There may currently be a vocal minority on the forums belaboring that they did not get what they personally were hoping for, but that is no different from any other gaming forum at a highly anticipated games release.

Sounds like you should play Star Citizen,... have fun waiting 3 years for the release.

I'm a backer of SC, and im starting to get really worried about that game, because of the price they charge for ship etc, think it going to be a very expensive space hobby just to play, on the other hand I paid £50 to be a beta backer and it's already paid me back in the amount of fun I've had already, im living the Dream of a space trucker

But EvE did have territory control and player crafting in the game on launch, as well as player communications. It felt alive and had meaning. That is why it persisted.

Mankind currently has colonized around 2,000 systems. We are continuing to colonize more and some of which can inhabit life and will become a very interesting situation. (just a thought)

Sorry to hear.
I'm rather glad that it's not another eve. Too much toxic in the community, too much politics (alliances), too much killmail focus, too much alarms at the middle of the night, defense ops, mining ops, gate camp ops, pointless ganks (again killmails) ...
It's all too much of a second job. Didn't need that. ;)
Happy to get away from it all.

Hope that you can finally enjoy ED at some stage, for what Ed is good at.
