Stolen or illegal goods are a great way to have fun playing currently, because you do not need huge ships - unlike trading - for this.
Trading is boring because it is predictive. But I find "opportunity play" fun: trying to fulfill the missions. Missions do not pay enough to pay for the maintenance costs of a bigger ship, but for something like a Cobra, they are nice.
The key is to find a station with lots of smuggling missions (for stolen goods, or illegal items like slaves or perf enhancers), and do them to gain more rep with a specific faction and get more missions.
Then you can "sell" stolen/illegal goods by going to the bulletin board and see if some mission ask for them.
Avoiding getting scanned is now quite easy. With a Cobra, just enter very fast, otherwise line up with the entry at some distance (> 5km), throttle up to 150/200 km/h, assist off, throttle to 0, enable silent running.... and assist on + enter when close to the slot. Once in the station you are not scanned. Plus when you see the "ship scan" message you have still 5 seconds before completion to enter.
And there is no scanning in outposts.
The randomness of missions breaks the monotony of gameplay. Too bad the mission timers do not stop when disconnected. Also missions do not pay enough to play with a bigger ship for now.

I guess there no real smuggling then, its not like I can buy heroin at a pirate base then sell it at a mining base where its illegal. those are the types of trades I am looking for and cant seem to find.
Yes, you can buy slaves (or combat stabilizers, etc) for instance somewhere and sell them elsewhere where they are illegal with a black market for >1,000cr profits, or >10,000cr if you find a station with frequent missions to deliver slaves.
It adds some spice to combats in USS/Nav Beacons because once all pirates are killed, you must escape before the cops try to scan you.
