Just go balls out towards the mail slot @ 2.5km request docking... then at 1.5 km deploy landing gear and aim for slot.. .. I can dock my DB Explorer in about 54 seconds total from leaving SC I've never been scanned by this method. They ain't got time.. never turn on your Ship lights before entering the Dock you will get scanned almost instantly..

OH and as a previous poster said.. Line up so when you drop out of Cruise you are between the celestial body and the intended docking station. This will put you almost directly in front of the entrance, as all Ports that rotate face their stationary doors toward the planet they orbit

It get's depressing, seeing I seem to be the only one in it for the challenge. :( Still, I won't outright tell anyone the speed demon way is wrong since there is no wrong way I admit. ;)
