Illicit cargo when entering a system?

Was passing through Leesti and picked up some juice and milk. Don't remember the system, but when scooping, I noticed that "Illicit Cargo" appeared on my HUD. Only thing I noticed was that I was in Federation space. After jumping out, it cleared and I did not see it appear again. Third time I did a rare run so I am not sure if this is intended. Any help would be appreciated.

What you scoop will always be illicit by definition, unless it's another Cmdr abandoning some cargo for you on purpose.

That being said, if you were talking about rares that you buy in stations, there's a few, like wolf fesh and antique weapons, that are considered illegal elsewhere. So, once you picked those up, you have to be careful of patrols and scans at the entrance of stations...

But I never left SC? I did not know that cargo will become illicit just from entering the system. I though I had to be scanned, and no ships were on the radar. And if scanned by security, should I not have been pulled out of SC?

that is simply ur ship computer telling u that the ship carries illegal stuff in the current system... as a warning for you to not get scanned later on

You have no fine (unless scanned) - your ship is advising you that some of your cargo is illegal in the system that you are in....

IIRC, you can also look at the system map for a list of things prohibited in that sytem.

Leestian Evil Juice is illegal in some systems, but is not listed under prohibited cargo in the system view left panel. The best way to be able to tell whether the rare you're buying is illegal is what section of the market it is found in. If you're buying an alcoholic substance, such as Lavian Brandy, it is likely to be illegal anywhere that beer, wine, and any other alcohol type cargo is illegal.

You can also buy legal cargo and move to another station and it is illegal. I just had a system with 6 stations. At one station Tobacco was illegal. So as soon as I get near it the Illicit Cargo warning pops up.

You can always check in the right panel what you are carrying is illegal at that station. Also shows what is stolen.

You can also buy Limpet at every station I've ever been to. It's also instantly illegal even at the station you just bought it from in most cases.

am I the only person to think that if you run illicit cargo through a system then that should count as smuggling.. even if the cargo is legal at it's end station? you're still running the risk of being scanned by the fuzz and getting in trouble...

Also, if the police do stop you with illegal cargo then you should be fined and forced to dump it (perhaps with the ejected cargo being destroyed by laser fire).

what do you think?
