Newcomer / Intro illicit cargo ...

how to start interact with black markets?
can i sell illicit goods to black markets?

my goods are domestic appliances...

what sells inside a black market?

In theory, if a station has a black market you can sell stuff that is prohibited in that system to it.

It's not something I've had to do recently, and I see people reporting that it's not working correctly.

@Blue Mars ,

Hope this helps.

Not enough info here to see your current issues so guessing.

Black markets trade in illegal goods. Are your goods illegal? If no then you cannot trade with them. Check your inventory status.

Domestic Appliances are never illegal goods unless you failed a mission then they are. Use the galaxy and system maps to find a black market in an orbiting or outpost station that is ACTIVE. Some are not. Then fly in without being scanned and sell them for less profit. Don't even try a planetary station as it is timing with the system authority ships out of range while manually fast docking without being scanned. Not easy even if you get good at it with a fast ship. Forget a Type-9. Still practice it with legal goods just in case you ever need these talents.

the black market is very broken at the moment
I do still use it regularly, as such and as for the engineer that wants you to do this, you can still sell stolen goods
selling it stolen goods is what has always worked for the engineer requirements anyway.

but as already mentioned that the BM counter being broken, this has happened many times. sometimes it works sometimes it does not
I last used it about 6-7 months ago on a new account, no problem. the counter was broken then too but counted fine for me

easiest method is to take a mission to deliver some goods, then take the cargo you need, abandon the mission, now you have stolen goods to sell to the black markets.

Drugs, weapons and slaves are the most common prohibited items, so load up with some of each, then go on a tour of black markets selling one unit at each one. If you're unlucky, many of the markets will be closes, so you have to keep trying different ones. Alternatively, you can blow up a ship and scoop it's cargo, which will be illicit cargo that you can sell in a black market.

hi cmdrs,
are you able to give tips to smuggle?
i did smuggle weapons once but now i wish to build a ship for covert smuggling...
maybe a small ship and a big ship...which one(s) to build and what better modules on it? any secret ideas ?

Black markets are usually in stations owned by Anarchy or confederacy governments, the only problem with your choices of so called illegal items is that they are not illegal in anarchy owned stations.
This is the main reason why STOLEN items work at ALL black markets.
fwiw prohibited is not the same as illegal.
prohibited items are not always illegal,, yet sold in many places. stolen items are illegal everywhere and not sold by anyone anywhere.

And you don't have to look for the right items, accepting a goods delivery mission then taking what you need, then abandoning the mission turns the items in your cargo into instant stolen goods now ready to be sold ONLY at any black market.

also, if you have stolen goods on board, you can safely fly into an anarchy station with them, they won't care.
if you fly into a confederacy station, they will care
not all black markets are friendly.

and a major difference is that if it is illegal aka stolen goods , at any station other than anarchy you only get a fine, But if you are carrying Illegal passengers, you will get shot at.
so be careful of what you smuggle, and where.

I have to add this..
there are many permanent Black Markets in the game. If their station has been taken over by another faction, the black market remains but is now closed.
Whereas if an anarchy faction takes over a station, they make their own black market. this type will go away if the anarchy faction loses the station to a different faction with a different government type.

fwiw you can tell the difference at outposts by the large red glowing Pirate emblem, this is the mark of a permanent Black Market, providing that the station even has one. not all outposts have a market of any kind.

Stolen goods or prohibited goods. That can be anything from slaves to booze or tobacco.
We all have our own positions on what we will and won't trade.

Some places are easier to sneak in than others, orbital docks being the easiest, surface ports being the hardest.
Some people like to boost through the slot and hope there isn't anything on the other side.
I prefer to build a cold runner, (under 15%) though that may not be possible if you're still unlocking engineers.
You can run silent with heat sinks at least for limited periods.
You can turn off non essential systems to reduce the power and therefore heat. If you drop out of supercruise early by the time you're lining up you could just be running the thrusters, scanners and life support. A biweave shield can be brought on line quicker if you drop it for SR.

umm , i was in an anarchy system on a planet and was for materials... i found and collected occupied escape pods...
like 8 of them.. i learned how2transfer it but ... later on ... i learned is for search and rescue missions...
... 10.69 LS ... later i flew to a a bunch of stations . one station only buys ... 2 pods... i was left with six... i flew to 3-4 more stations...
ones with "smuggling" ... none in contacts wanted to " collect " it ...
sadly ... i was near a busy starport and ... jettison the 6 occupied escape cargo....

Essentially, anything that's fast enough should be ok - provided you can stop it in time before you hit the rear station wall. Alternatively, youcan run cold. Getting a ship to run cold enough to undetectable outside visual range (i.e. NPCs will be able to "see" you if they come close enough) is a challenge, but there are enough ships that can run cool afterr dropping a heat sink in silent running for long enough to get you into (or out of) a station safely - ground bases with active patrol craft are a different matter.

Here are three builds I use occasionally:
Dolphin, as my general long distance transport. Not really that cold, but good enough - and it can junp from scooping range without overheating. This is the version with the full kit - if you skip some of the stuff, you can get a bit more range and toss in a smaller (and cooler) power plant. Also world champion for burning stations - you don't even need a heatsink while you watch the limpets doing their job.

Krait Phantom - my go-to for mid distance passenger sightseeing tours. Handles wanted or sensitive passengers quite well - can go silent, drop a heatsink and either cruise or boost into a station without any trouble. Optional loadout varies, depending on the mission profile.

DBX. Cold. Set up for near invisible NPC cargo acquisition missions ("liberate hostages" and such). No shields, but decent enough armour.

Smuggling is the same as normal hauling. There are two small changes that you probably need to make. Firstly, learn how to drop out dead in front of the station. If you fly in straight down the axis line, you won't get scanned. You don't need to use any stealth tactics at all, nor any special ship or build. If you fly reasonably fast towards the slot ( single boost from drop in point), no NPCs will get in your way because none will come out and the ones coming in will spawn behind you. Secondly, you need to carry heatsinks. If you happen to mess up somehow, like miss the slot, no need to panic. Just correct your mistake and try again, but if you get the "scan detected" message, immediately drop a heatsink, which will de-target you for long enough to get in. Under no circumstances should you use a docking computer outside the slot. It's too slow.

Don't forget that the police are acanning outside the station when you leave, so don't hang about there whilst sorting out your galaxy map. Boost out of the slot and keep boosting until you can get your FSD going, which is what you should do anyway when not smuggling because it saves time.
