Newcomer / Intro I'm a greedy newb, but ....

Hi,
so, while still being in my sidewinder, I got greedy and accepted a 126k reward pirate hunt mission. Found the dude, he is flying an elite anaconda that my punny siddy won't even scratch but I made it out alive. Now I'm considering my options and here are my questions:
1 Can I bring another player with me to help with the pirate?
2 Can a Viper put a dent in an Anaconda (cause I think I can upgrade to a Viper in relevant mission time)?

P.S. Not bitchin' but a line like "He is known to fly an Anaconda." in mission description doesn't sound like too much information :p.

I brought a viper with chaff launcher and shield cell. I used 2 class1 and 2 class2 gimballed multi cannon. I took the elite anaconda down with no shield cell left and full hull.
Stay on top of him and keep launching those chaff whenever possible.
Full pip to shield, none to engine and two to weapons.
Would love to hear what others did.

That would be helpful. I've always figured that if something looks too good to be true then it probably is. :) A mission paying out 150K when all the rest are offering a few thousand at most - uhhh I think there's something you ain't telling me here Mr Bulletin Board Guy!

I don't know the answer to either of your questions I'm afraid. :(

Beam lasers on the small hard points to strip the shields, medium multicannons for the hull, target the power plant and stay away from the pointy end.
With this configuration it's not too difficult, I've had a lot of success with this setup, use shield cell banks when you have 1 strip of shield left, means you can have all pips to engines and weapons for manouverabiliy, and can keep those beams bright!

Use chaff when he manages to get a lock, and use thrusters to try and stay underneath him.

I'm in a viper, and this method enabled me to kill 6 of these so far without breaking my shields down.

Thanks for the tips! Need a bit more cash a bit to pimp the viper.

About question 2 though , you guys know if you can cooperatively do missions with other players or all mission from bulletin board are meant for solo?

Hmm.. I have to log in now and try your method! What sort of shield gen do you have? The class A?

I have the class c, the class B cell banks have 9 charges, and they are pretty resilient anyway. If I have to use more than 4 charges I know I'm in trouble.

How could you bring someone? Maybe if that someone has a wake scanner and scans your wake after you jump from supercruise into the uss?

Dropping from suprecruise to normal space leaves a low energy wake behind which doesn't need a wake scanner to follow. The other player(s) would simply target your wake and approach it like a station, dropping out of supercruise in the blue zones.

You do not need to scan a low energy wake. I.e. where a ship has entered a USS from supercruise. Just target it and follow in as you would targeting a spacestation. For High energy wakes, you will need a scanner

Nice tip thank you!. If you could tell us where on our instruments to look for those "low energy wakes". Having trouble locating those. I only see USS-es (maybe because i'm still in solo mode?). Or do we need to have a ship targeted (in supercruise) in order to see the LEW that its descent to normal speed spawns?

The wakes show on the HUD as white/grey diamond outlines, same as the orange ship indicators. They can be targetted in the same way too. On the sensor display they show up (I think, not in-game right now) as white contacts. The difference being, the wakes don't show an ETA, so you really need to pay attention to the target panel. I would expect the wakes would also show up in solo play as NPCs leave them behind too.

Thanks for the follow up. So, if I understand correctly, while in supercruise I should keep an eye out for these Low Energy Wakes, target them approach them and dissengage when in blue area for distance and speed and I will drop on grid with the ship that exited supercruise there. Okie dokie, thanks for the education ;).

There's a good lesson here about not biting off more than you can chew, and in elite you're offered a lot to chew.. :) but I agree that for someone starting anew, its not very explanatory what's expected of you in a mission. My best advice is to take it slow, take the lower paid missions at first and then move on. Its been posted on this forum hundreds of times but really its not a race. Elite is totally about the individual experience. Some people can only see the end goal, but trust me, elite is all about the journey, and I think that's what many people don't understand, particularly when the end goal has been the main focus for so many games over the years. Elite is truly special .

Happy to report "Mission Accomplished". Thank all for the good advice. Risk big and win big or clean save :p.
