Im about to buy EVERYTHING and need some advice

I would never, never, NEVER pick up a PC gaming rig for one game. I don't have that kind of free currency. I have a console BECAUSE it was $400. Alienware PC, HOTAS, VR, upgrade your internals whenever the next cool game comes out. What is that, a few thousand dollars? And three nice monitors, don't forget to add that price in.

There simply is no other game like Elite: Dangerous on the console. PS4 is getting No Man's Sky, but I believe Elite will prove itself as the superior product. I fear some people lose sight of that because PC has it better than us. If that's what you want, put your money where your mouth is and spend a few grand on all the gear. For me, I get quite a lot for my $400 investment. And Dark Souls III releases in ten days! Have you looked at Battleborn and Overwatch? And everyone is playing The Division. All for a modest initial investment.

Our player group Minor Faction has just expanded into it's fourth system. Because of the current Community Goal, Fed-aligned pilots are pouring into my home system, asking to be engaged and fired upon. Senator Torval is getting 5C'd right now, and we have...less than 20 active members on the Strategy Team? Coordinated efforts to stop the horrible expansions this week will be all but impossible with a group the size of Torval's.

And PC gets to, what, land on moons? And extend their jump range via materials? And I'm supposed to get so excited about that that I drop my next Tax Return on a Gaming Rig? Again, I bought a console for the quality vs. price point.

I'm happy for the folks that have the capital to afford a top of the line PC. I don't, and Elite is just fine on console.

Wow, didn't intend to rant, but it's too late to delete all that. Took to much time and my thumbs are sore from typing on a tablet.

Oh wait! Almost forgot. The Elite Controllor is a very nice piece of hardware. But it won't make you a better player. If you buy one, only buy it because it is a very nice piece of hardware.

I'm a lil salty with Samsung tvs atm, bought a nice 60inch and was the ducks guts to watch until one month after the warranty ran out the tv gave up the ghost was quoted a small fortune to fix so I just end up buying a no named tv with an extended 7 year warranty for piece of mind. I highly recommend looking into extended warranty with large screen tvs.

Over the last 10 years I have built 3 gaming rigs with a budget of £500 on each and they all last and run all the high end specs, most of my friends who run with consoles spend more than £500 a year on new consoles and replacement consoles when they brake and on their games and "cool" controllers oh and lets not forget you have to pay for your internet AND you Xbox live. All considered as long as you know where to go to get the good deals PC is generally cheaper so stop saying its not.

End of the day it comes down to what each individual person prefers to play on.

Careful bud, your "master race" colors are showing. This is the Xbox side after all, lol.

Triple screen PC gaming goodness isn't really all that expensive.

You can pick up three 1080p TV's on clearance for the price of one XB1. Buy a 2nd hand PC for $200. Grab a 2nd hand 7950 for $100 - actually PM me and I'll send you a 3Gb 7950 for free. If funds are low, I can only suggest getting a better job.

No i don't take part in the hole "PC master race" or "console wars" thing I use PC Xbox and PS and have allways respected everyones choise of platform, but I despise people who argue about consoles being cheaper because they are for the most part about the same price acros the board. sure you can go look at top of the line gaming computers that cost upwards of £2000 but most gamers won't spend more than £600 on thier systems.

The one reason to get ED on PC is that XB1 receives updates at much slower rate and thanks to its performance limits, the future of season DLCs is questionable.
Other than that, go with what feels right.

I am also surprised that kinnect is not usable for headtracking. It would have been awesome.

600 quid wouldn't even buy a Titan X

Why would you want 12GB graphics card to play games? thats insane XD

Yes this ^^^ There are certain restrictions where it comes to updates and patches where it costs FDev money to release Xbox patches/updates/DLC and they have to be checked by MicroSoft so that adds time delays hence the big time intervals between bug fixes.

Also on the Kinnect and head tracking thing, does Xbox support VR? If so that would be a much better investment than kinnect IMO

We wish it did support VR. We can live in hope... like support for HOTAS, which I think is a tad more important.

If I didn't like being able to do the lazy man thing and turn everything on by shouting in a strange American accent "Xbox on..." or "Xbox, watch TV." etc, etc.... I'd rip the damned non functioning little supported piece of nonsense out of the Xbox...

I love my Xbox, but I'd have even my old gaming rig back in a flash, even considering what all the peripherals I no longer have would cost. A decent stick, a gamepad keyboard...whatever happened to the Sidewinder 2 FFB? I miss that stick...

I also miss ARMA 3 and rise of flight...and especially the ability to mod my games.

I've taken to playing Silent Hunter III on my 6 year old laptop lately, with the GWX mod and a few others...Now, unfortunately, shouting at my Xbox to turn on doesn't seem like such a big deal anymore :(

My GF got me one for Christmas :)

It simply makes triple screen PC gaming a bit smoother, and the fan is quieter than my old card. Elite on the XB1 is fine and good fun on a 32" TV. But one screen, no matter how big it is, is no match for triple screen. Lets not go into VR - it completely blows triple screen gaming away, and I doubt the XB1 is capable of that.

Then there is the controller issue. Controllers are fine, but wait until you have tried Elite on a high end PC (or even an old one like mine) with a HOTAS and VR. It's a completely different experience, and sadly no console will ever be able to deliver it. I love my XB1, 360, Xbox and PS4 - they are fun machines - but when it comes to Elite absolutely nothing comes close to the PC.

Neither does Rise of Flight....or IL2, Cliffs of Dover...or ARMA 3... :(

Haha i used to shout at mine anyway even when it didnt have the voice commands :D but hidden away in the windows control panel somewhere is a voice recognition software package for you pc and well last time i tried it it was ... erm ... absolute and utter          :cough: pardon my french,

I wonder why microsoft havent jumped on the Xbox VR support wagon since they could retail their own headset that could be the only one that works with Xbox and make even more money out of their customers :/

What size are your screens? I run 2 22" wide screens on a single 4GB card :D sadly no hotas yet but i do use a razer nostromo from back in my CS days and its much more imersive than a single screen. Although my local cinema has this thing where you can rent 1 of their big screens and plug your console in and use the whole sound system and everything and that would be awsome!

Oh that would be heaps of fun!

Double screen gaming works very well for some games, but in something like Elite, you end up with a split right down the middle of your viewpoint. That goes away with triple screens, but you do end up with stretching at the sides, and some people really dislike that.

I really only like three screens as it allows me to both work and play at the same time :D

There's a youtube video out there of someone playing Titanfall on twelve screens - I has rig jealousy! :(

sorry yeah i mean 3 I must have miss typed :/ plus my screens are on differnt types of cable so I get a slight difference in shading over all 3 but its negligable :)

Anyway kinda feeling sorry for the OP since we hijacked his thread :/ Wonder what he ended up buying?

I used to be a PC gamer and switched to console because it was tiresome to need expensive upgrading or endless tweaking/fiddling to get various games to run well. I don't have time for that anymore. I just wanna play and not think about hardware. Obviously it has its drawbacks but it works for me right now.

On TVs... I have a Samsung 55 and its about as nice as LED/LCD TVs get. Looked at a lot of them to get what I wanted. The blacks are quite nice but the LCD motion blur is annoying despite all the work arounds. Motion blur is not a huge problem with Elite... more so with games like GTAV. A plasma would have provided a better overall picture but there are very few offerings these days.

Hopefully he purchased a gaming PC with all the shiny goodies and a Panasonic TV :D

Thanks everyone for all the comments it was interesting.... Panasonic 40inch tv, Xbox elite controller and kinect..... Happy days😀

Purchasing the actual game today... Quick question is there a particular edition I should be buying???
