I'm confused about squadrons!?

I joined a squadron today and I'm a bit nonplussed about it to be honest. I was kind of expecting them to be like guilds in other games with their own member list and dedicated chat channel and what not, where you can keep in contact with group members, but all I seem able to do is see what systems the squadron are currently engaged in... It tells me there are 15 members, but it doesn't tell me who they are or where they are and there seems to be no way to contact anyone to find out what they're up to and maybe join in with some squad based wing play, as there doesn't seem to be an in-squadron chat... It just looks like some sort of scoreboard with a list of systems and no interaction between members.

I admit I don't get it... Can someone please enlighten me? :S

It seems to be lacking. Been trying to figure out how to change my squadron ID... Like the squadron name, which I know can't be changed, but messed up when picking the ID... I want to change it!

Look on your right hand panel and select squadron - you get squadron management.
Look at the tabs on your top left hand chat panel - there's wing and squadron chat there, I think. There's definitely 'squadron posts', a kind of built in bulletin board.

It does have its own chat channel and you can see the members list in your right panel. However, I am finding the squadron chat isn't available sometimes. But if I log to the main menu and come back, some times it becomes available again. I think its not working as intended and the bugs need to be addressed. Its a brand new system so I imagine the bugs have to be worked out with a patch.

I don't know on the side of a squadron member, but as the leader I can see how many and who. Then again, maybe it always shows the member names regardless of online status.

Did it tell you it wasn't available. I was using it to tell a member about the new features but she never replied. I wonder if the channel was down and I was typing into the ether.

Now that I am home, I can say that going to the Squadrons icon on your home page (right panel) you can select Members and there is a list of members on and offline.

It shows me where each person is/was last at, what ship they were in (as an watermark image and text along with their ship name), their ranks and when they joined. I can tell they are offline by the fact that most of the action buttons at the bottom are greyed out (add to friends, invite to wing and invite to multi-crew). At the least they aren't in my server game type. I happen to know this person is offline, though.

In addition there are filters which include, online, offline, various ranks. You can also sort the list by online first. No indicator where the online part ends and the offline part begins.

All of this is as leader of the squadron. Might be different for a regular member.

My guess is that the squadron youre in has all those features locked for your rank.

Squad chat, seeing other players in my squad all works great for me.
