I'm finally an explorer

Logged on shortly after update (yay ps4) and put my Phantom together before setting off on a quick 7kly journey to a very nice system I want to 1st map

Took 10 mins to sort my keybinds out and 25 mins (inc a quick 5 min YT vid) to get to grips with new FSS mode and launching probes

Long story short I finally feel like a proper explorer and the new system is really cool and easy to use so a massive thumbs up from this Cmdr - thanks FDev!

Good good , been putting this off for years and sitting at pioneer from scanning the bubble (an the 5k palin run) ... finally time to dust off the cobwebs and head out inyo the deep dark.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Excellent! :D

I'm really enjoying the new exploration mechanics myself.

I was really excited for it but in practice taking an hour + to map a system is really tedious and that's not counting the two crashes to dashboard I had too.

Why would you map an entire system?

Within a cpl of minutes of entering a system, with no travelling required you can discover everything in it using the FSS. This gives you first discovery tag if it was undiscovered as well as all the information about the body the same as if you'd travelled there and DSS'd it under the old system

Mapping takes it a step beyond what we had before, and whilst it does add an additional "mapped by" tag, I fail to understand why you'd want to map every body? The FSS scan would tell you if there were geological features etc, and of course the extra payout for a WW or ELW would probably be worth it but barring those reasons why would you want to map everything.......?

Best update in the history of gaming

Best of luck to you re the crashes, I just played for 2 hours crash less on xbox...and let me tell you, this is NOT an update...this is finally the release of the real exploration part of the game. I agree with OP.. took a 500 ly dip out of the bubble in random direction. Found a random unmapped planet, probed and landed on the first geological feature I've ever visited in the game ( hand not read up o how to get into codec entry so have to go back for that).... I have NEVER found a geological feature before... if (haha) they can pair this with a detailed tutorial, I can't think of any deep space fans not falling in love with this...
