I'm finding it more intuitive to farm for planet side raw materials in Horizons DLC

Seriously who is behind the new heat maps in Elite Dangerous Odyssey? They seem unfinished to me. So hard to read. I mean some are ok and I have had success finding the Crystalline Spikes previously but unfortunately the points of interest are so hard to differentiate on some maps it's making the game an anguish ridden hell ride of impossibility on some planets.

Please could you implement different colours for the points of interest even if they are just area based on the near vicinity of points of interest or risk driving the remaining player base that you have away from the game. I don't mind a grind when searching for materials to upgrade your belongings but when it's this bad it really does make it a chore

I don't know if anyone developing Elite Dangerous even bothers to frequent these forums anymore maybe I'm being a bit naive posting this thinking that anyone cares so let this be my rant at the game which I find compelling and have invested hundreds of hours into. What are everybody's thoughts if there are still people that still play for this magical but highly frustrating game?

There are no POI. The heatmaps show regions where you will find the relevant geological item. There is no way to locate specific fields. You just drive or skim til you find one. Side effect of merging geo system with bio system; the new system was really designed with bio in mind.

They care. Apparently Elite is a low-morale project though (and that's something that should be destroyed one way or the other as fast as possible). That exacts a constant toll. But they do care but Frontier develops a lot more than Elite now.

My only suggestion would be to try to find a planet with a higher total listed content of whatever it is you're looking for.

Skimmed for ages on different parts of a know high resource planet in hip 36601 I believe the spikes are there. I must have spent two hours low flying then driving around the planet. I'm struggling to decipher the poi colours so just randomly skimming. I thought I had it sussed on the previous planet but apparently not 😑

my point is Odyssey looks fantastic when you are on the planet but sometimes I don't think things spawn in when you are down in the scarab. Also the vagueness of the detailed surface scanner is frustrating. I'm sure it is being addressed as I know this is a labour of love for frontier but I was frustrated at the time of posting.

Unfortunately I have loaded in Horizons and found the adequate amount of Tellurium. I say unfortunately because I'd love to farm on the planets in Odyssey because they look ace.

I'm sure these flaws will be dealt with in time just wanted a vent and some constructive feedback as a returning player.

Cheers for your response though mate 😀

It's been said mutliple times, there are no heat maps, the different colours mean nothing, it's just location information, here there is a chance of finding X. There is a much better chance of finding X if you know what sort of terrain X likes though, I have never had any problems finding spikes, but don't just rely on the location map, if the current terrain you are searching doesn't have them, change the terrain type. So if you are skimming over desert and see nothing then change to the mountainous areas or icy areas.

I wouldn't say it's intuitive in Horizons, it's easier because they put a big arrow down that says "here they are," that's not intuition, that's spoon feeding, but if that's what you want H will work fine until they roll out the new terrain tech to that part of the game.

No I don't want spoon feeding I want the game that I have paid money for to have the correct mechanics. The DLC has been out a year, how long does the team need to "roll out the correct terrain tech?"

Back in the Alpha test it was discovered that the heat map wasn’t working right and was confusing some of the players.
Since then it hasn’t been a heat map the blue colours merely shows the regions where the selected items should be findable, the shadings within the blue areas seem to me to correspond with terrain changes, swapping between HUD modes shows this, but has no other relationship with the chances of finding something.

I haven’t been collecting Crystal Shards for a long time but from recent posts by those who have I believe that once you spot them they are quite easy to harvest though they lack the frame rate crashing tight groupings found in Horizons.

Yeah I've been on two other planets farming shards they are more spread out definitely which is cool by me I just follow the scarab radar. I thought I'd figured out the formula of finding shards but have struggled on the latest planet I've landed on after about three hours of trial by error I switched to Horizons for that planet and will switch back for my next planet and try again

I'll take note of the terrain more on the next one. (It sounds like the landmarks etc may be in similar terrain types on each planet which would definitely help in the long run.) I'm sure that will bring more success and I'll keep my fingers crossed that something a bit clearer gets rolled out by Frontier in the future.

I think you misunderstood. Odyssey already has the new terrain tech. They were talking about when Odyssey's terrain tech gets put into Horizons, in which case the "pointing to the geo POI" will be gone.
