I'm having trouble plotting routes today?

My galaxy map seems to be struggling today, I'm about 6000Ly out from the galactic core and I can't seem to get a route to work.

The last few 1000ly routes seemed to take a while to plan and for a while after made the whole game keep dropping it's frame rate but now it's got to the point where the "route" button slowly gets round to about 98% and then dissapears and the game drops to about 1 or two frames per minute and i can't do anything, even waiting for 15 minutes see's no joy and I had to save and exit.

Anyone else having this trouble today or is it normal as the stars get denser?

Seems odd it was fine yesterday but broken today.

This is normal unfortunately, the stars are much closer together and the optimal path plotting takes longer and longer. You can turn displaying the nav routes off altogether, and pick smaller paths to speed it up. Also, if you cancel out when it's sat there spinning at 98%, then pick another star 50LY closer and it should have the route cached and pick more quickly.

Incidentally, I didn't see you had put 98% in your post, I just knew the number from experience.

OK thanks, I did wonder if it was the extra stars causing the problem.

For a while i thought it was my CPU showing it's age but as far as I can see there is no increase in useage in either my CPU, my GPU or my network traffic which would indicate it's the game itself that struggles.

Even my old Phenom II X4 is only running at about 30% while it's happening.

I'll give the shorter routes a go, that'll remind me of the "old days" When we didn't have a route planner at all. ;)

Hmmm, about 5 times in a row I had to plan routes under 200ly or it wouldn't work, then the next one was instant 1000ly no problems, however the radiator fan on my CPU was running at maximum for most of the trip and frame rates were suffering until the last couple of hops again though, CPU use never over 35%, RAM never over 40% use and GPU hardly doing anything, fans didn't even start up.

I think when a route fails and you click another one it doens't stop working on he first one, it's still doing calculations somewhere, but I'm not sure how it's not using CPU capacity but it IS making it get hot???
