im just wondering why i cant customise my ships body as in art , without paying for it .

Most games don't allow free customization. The vast majority charge for custom options, like different skins/paintjobs. Gears of War, the Batman: Arkham series, etc. Most developers use it as a source of additional revenue; the only reason certain games allow it is because they already charge you for DLC, like different vehicle packs in the case of racing titles like Forza.

Developer design decisions
BUT
They do sale paint and ship kits so there's that and they release updates a few times a year on those.

Also consider instead of fully customized ships they added customized pilots pilots last year so that's where some recent developer time went.

most games allow this
In my experience, most games feature micro transactions for cosmetic packs as opposed to free. It's just the way of the industry now I'm afraid. At least FD haven't added a shortcut pack. $100 dollars for the triple elite rank and max navy ranks. And you know there are jack wangs out there who would pay it.

My point is I'd be thankful it stops at cosmetics.

There is also the angle that it allows FD to quality control & manage content. No adult or offensive content. Mass user uploads would also require server space and increase network loads & latency.

It's not as simple as A, B, C.

This is what we have to work with. Either use it, or don't I'm afraid, dear chap/madam.

Personally would like to see the points price drop a little. Or maybe 10% points appended for free with each purchase or other loyalty scheme. Eg: 1100 for the price of 1000. But they are a business after all.

AFAIK in the Kickstarter phase it boiled down to either FD having to charge a subscription for the game, or them charging for cosmetics. The question was put to the backers, and they decided for paid cosmetics.

That's good. I personally despise games that make you pay for the game, then pay monthly just to play it. Nothing more frustrating to me.

Let's not forget to mention that Frontier has given out a few Freebies, spefically the powerplay decal pack and the free flight suit pack, there is also the rank decals, combat, merchant, explorer etc, so technically you can customize your ship's cosmetics without paying for it.

In which the main focus are to have the coolest ride on the block, elite isn't that. Also all the upgrades have an effect on gameplay
Oh; agreed 100%. Need for Speed, is a few cars, on a limited basically 2D map; Elite is so much more and we have enough issues with everyone getting together; for a dozen different reasons, without adding 'custom paint' work to worry about. Need for Speed was never really totally free art; just a selection of graphic options.

I see the OP is conspicuous by their absence. Click bait?

I don't have an issue with the 'paid for paint jobs' and it is really nice for them to throw one or two at me, every now and then; because I spent a little extra in an earlier season.

However: It would be nice to be able to mix and match; paint jobs I have stored. Maybe each ship has a selected set of panels, that we could add a second paint job, we have stored. Have the ship a base colour/paint-job and said panels can be taken from a second, paint job.

But they do give you fire works to play with.

Personally, I'd rather not constantly run into ships with giant anime characters on them, or the batman symbol. Just my opinion, though.
