I'm making my final preparations to go to Colonia permanently. Shipping modules there. Cost?

But that was surely not the rate for a transfer to Colonia, right?

No, of course not, but you get the idea. That was for transferring my Python from Kopal Orbital in Tsim Binba, to Garay Terminal in Deciat, and then flying the Python back to Kopal, and transferring my AspX. Sure, I could have flown directly there using the Python, but my AspX has a 40 Ly jump range, which made it quicker and easier to use the transfer method, the downside was that the Python was fairly expensive to transfer even such a relatively short distance.

I wouldn't want to do that outside the bubble, not unless I was filthy rich and had nothing else to spend my credits on!

Not intended as a guide, but as a summary of my process when I took the trip (I may be on mt way back to the bubble ATM, but I'm not sure if I'm actually just out aimless wondering around. I wasn't planning on heading back when I left Colonia Dream, but that's how I ended up at Sag A a while back...)

1. Buy and kit the ship that you suits your desired travel experience (fast as possible v scan everything, etc). Reccommend enginnering and modules for maxium efficiency in scanning systems. May as well make some money on the way out.

2. Strip and store your engieered modules from all of your ships that you won't be equipping (if you think you may want to run some passenger missions, then store or equip any cabins that you may want, as these are apparently not currently available anywhere in Colonia...though there are passenger missions)

3. Sell other ships (optional, but no point in keeping them if you're not coming back)

4. Bookmark the five or so deep space installations along the way. You won't find missions there, but you can sell your data along the way and make repairs, if needed.

5.Make the trip.

6. Sell data and repurchase ships that you sold (10% value lost throgh selling is far chearper than transfer cost)

7. Transfer any engieered modules that you need, as you are able. Some fees seem reasonable, but I have a few that are $60-$70mil to transfer (combat stuff) and since I'm not sure if I will need combat gear in Colonia, I'm holding off on transferring).

Some general thoughts about the trip (if you are a seasoned explorer, then feel free to skip)

I loaded my Anaconda with SRVs, SLFs, heat sinks, the biggest fuel scoop, the most engieered FSD I could roll, engineered scanners, 16T fuel tank, and the lightest of all required internals. No shields or hardpoints. I have insufficient capacitor banks for boosting, but not required. Got my hull down to 76% once, but that was due to a single bumpy landing and not a cumulative effect of the trip, so don't be scarred about not having shields). I've got a 56Ly jump range, and did hit a stretch of neutron stars along the way (216ly) which helped offset the time "lost" from scanning things.

For me, jump range and time in the black doesn't really matter much, until I set a fixed destination, or feel like I need to be somewhere. My trip to Sag A lasted a long time, but I only decided to make that a destition after I had been out for a month and reaslized that I was "in the neighborhood." After traveling for 22kly without thinking about it, the 8k-10k ly to SagA seemed like a huge obstical and I was very focused on making it there with the fewest jumps possible.

So you may not care right now about being as light as possible and maximizing jump range, but if you haven't faced the dark Sirens before, you may be surprised at how reasonable their suggestions to self destruct can sound....

Its even easier than that to migrate a fleet of ships to colonia... Fly one of your main ships out from bubble and dock in the colonia bubble, then buy a sidewinder, self destruct, select free sidewinder at starting system, go home, get your next ship, fly to colonia, rinse and repeat.

Bringing said fleet back from colonia is somewhat more difficult requiring the pilot to fly both to and from colonia..

I know it takes a few days. That's not a concern. When I reach Colonia I'll be killing that time with a short expedition.

But how much does it cost to ship a module? Say, if I wanted to ship a 4A thruster module? Any idea how much it'll set me back? Is there a formula?

I did the same thing, in my former life.
It ultimately ended in me deleting my save. :D

A 4A don't cost that much to ship.
