I'm now being asked to link my Xbox account to a Frontier Store account when starting the game

I've been playing ED for years and was playing it earlier today. I just started the game again this afternoon and when the game tried to log into the Frontier servers, I got this instead:

My Xbox profile should already be linked to a Frontier Store account, since I've purchased stuff from the store before. I'm afraid that someone my saved game somehow got trashed on the Frontier servers and the game is asking to start from scratch! What's going on?

When I go to https://www.frontierstore.net/frontier_partnerkeys/thirdparty/ it says this:

So that shows that Frontier's servers already know that my Xbox account is linked. I'm afraid that if I try to re-link the two accounts, Frontier's servers will trash any existing data and everything I've done will be lost.

Looks like the problem went away by itself an hour later. I'm glad I didn't touch anything. Anyway, if this happens to anyone else, just walk away and try again in an hour.

Hmm i know you have to do it on new accounts. And I recall linking mine when this was in the ID Xbox thing years ago

This has nothing to do with age of the account, what what.

I have had my account for a few years now and only just got back from an 'undiscovered country' trip.

Got Bally well no Arx (also known as fish hook coins) and also could not log back in after I quit, what what.

This is clearly an issue with servers not serving, absolutely Bally poor form and sticky wicket also.
