I'm on the FAO bandwagon - sorry I took so long

Last night, and a few nights ago too, I decided to glide around some stations and outposts with FA off.

I have to say, that was the best gaming experience of my life. Bar NONE.

Once you get the hang of it, once you appreciate it fully, you can never go back. Oh - and I did it with the Oculus Rift.

Last night, I was in an Eagle, in space. I was floating around a huge space outpost above a burning planet beneath a very close fireball star, with two other smaller stars around it. It wasn't a game, it wasn't virtual. It was real.

It was accurate, perfect, my brain was utterly convinced. The lack of G-forces were long excused by some futuristic inertial dampeners (yes I know they aren't lore).

EDIT: Here's the footage in case you want to see me practicing around some stations and outposts. Venus' Burnell Station has a WEIRD sound going on in the middle of the vid...

It's highly addictive isn't it, you'll be hooked from now on! I'd like to see your exploits if you ever post any on the tube. :)

Anyone who complains about the flight physics in Elite has literally proven themselves a complete idiot. It is flawless and perfect and if you complain about it then obviously you suck at it.

Charming. What an advert for your rarefied game style. "Play like me and you too can be a bore".

yea like top speed cap is also idiotic...... o and don't forget the thruster has to fire constantly, like there is friction in space....... Dumb.... It is flying in space except not with space physics.

In my opinion FA Off is only usable as a primary flight mode (i.e., activated most or all of the time) if one has analogue control of vertical and lateral thrusters. I used to have that ability with my CH Pro Throttle, and I was much more able to maneuver with FA Off back then than I am now with the Saitek X-55 (I needed to switch in order to have a throttle that is properly calibrated for ED on a Mac), where I am restricted to digitally controlled, full on-or-off thrusters.

It definitely makes me sad ... every time I watch one of Isinona's videos I think "man, I gotta try that FA Off thing ... oh wait, that's why I can't, I don't have analogue thruster controls anymore." :(

Been flying 90% FA-OFF with digital vertical thrust since Beta, never had any issues. Yaw/lateral is analog through pedals, rest through the HOTAS. Lateral would also be fine through digital if I didn't have pedals.

I actually find analog thrusters to be more useful for FA On than FA Off.

Fight assist is providing constant counter to any inputs, so it helps me to have a way to maintain a continual, variable, input of my own.

Without flight assist (or as without it as ED allows) I'm often pulsing thrusters anyway, and it really wouldn't matter if they were analog or digital...just shorten or extend the pulses as necessary.

For this, all I did was get rid of my primary and secondary fire and use them for left/right lateral. That had all axes covered. This is to practice the concept, when I get my hotas kit repaired I'll be able to do it all. Or when I get the Elite Xbox Controller
