So... been feeling it's really time to quit.

Today, I broke my ashtray. I had that ashtray for years.

Some of you may read this and think it was like a subconscious thing. I'm blaming it on the Bejeebus.

Now I need a plan...

As a chemist, i'm curious. Was it heat? Did you drop it? What made a ceramic/plastic tray drop?

Also, we'll help you quit! [big grin]

No dude! I was setting it down and I kind of missed the mark. Kind of like how when a person one day wishes they weren't married, and then accidentally axe-murders their spouse?

I mean, I don't know... just one of those freak things....

I assume you smoke the real thing, those foul cancer tubes wrapped in paper.

If you can't manage cold turkey, switch to vaping at least. You'll start feeling a whole lot better, and stop coating your lungs with tar.

Go to your docs and ask for bupropion (if you're in the UK the doctor will know it as Zyban). It's an SDRI so it might make you feel a bit weirded out and maybe a bit hornier while you are on it, but it'll take the edge off your cravings.

Although one person may claim it's 3980 posts by one person. I prefer my story instead.

On a serious note, if you decide to quit, it will be the healthiest decision you ever made and for that, I wish you good luck.

Thank you, everyone.

I did get a prescription for bupropion a while back. Still have a live script, so will start taking it again and pick up a vaporizer.

Actually, I liked the way it made me feel, so it's not like I'll be going out of my way.

Will let you all know how it goes.

Hmm gave up drinking years ago...was fairly easy in comparison considering the peelers kept arresting me beause the booze almost always made me nasty.

Cant give up the smokes though...I vape the weed or use it in cooking ingredients, that aint the problem...problem being my mood swings which vary from very loud to very destructive similar to what the booze did, although the booze made me start the fight in the first place.

Tried everything, nothing works apart from the weed...but it then gets to the bit where I start rolling joints to compensate.

Lt's just say I'm a chainsmoker for about 20 years, and given a lot of tough to finish it. No go... A few months ago i decided to slowly systematically come off from it, from health reasons. i started to use different tobacco (i rolling myself) And also different cigarette sleeve, the tobacco was weaker, the sleeve was more serious, overall the amount what i smoked did not dropped, but still felt better. Today after a lot of hesitation i bough a e cigar.

We shall see how it's fares, but this far i think it will do. although its a little strange i missing the smoke flavor.

Also by checking the fluid components i noticed something. The main components. Propylene glycol & glycerol. they are harmless, unless used in extreme doses. But there is an interesting thing about glycol. as oily substance it can solve tar. I wonder... How it's affect the tar in our lungs?

Edit; Drinking? That was never a problem to me when i was still in my party age i drinked a lot, on Saturdays. (don't get me started! :p ) And after that not get anywhere near to it for weeks. never missed it.

I quit years ago, and binned alcohol for 9 months as I tended to find that I smoked more when I drank. I wasn't a particularly heavy smoker though.

My brother's gone to e-cigs and that seems to be working out for him.

All of the adults around me smoked... my friend and I, at eight years old, used to sneak butts out of the ashtray and puff on them in hiding (not inhale) . It was only a matter of time.

When I was about 12, my sister's friend taught me how to inhale... man, I was suddenly one of the "cool" kids.

Count yourself lucky.

Man that's grim.

I'm almost afraid to ask, did your mum smoke through pregnancy and when you were a baby?

suck it up, go cold turkey. It's tough as all hell, but if you can handle the first month, you'll never go back.
If you've been smoking awhile, the first two weeks or so are particularly bad ... not only do you deal with the withdrawal, but also a lot of people hack like crazy, as the cilia in your lungs grow back and your lungs start shedding the coating of tar you subjected them to. I was coughing so bad, I almost started smoking again, I was almost convinced I had already developed cancer. Keep some cough drops around, or non-drowsy cough medicine. It helps a lot.

Just do it-- after the first 30 days, you'll wonder how you could have been so stupid to haven't done it sooner.
