Hi Commanders
I'm not particularly a fan boy, white knight, whatever... I've made some cutting posts myself in the past, but and a big BUT....
I'm prompted to speak up having just read what I think is one of the most negative posts I've seen on this oft-times toxic forum...
Since 3.0 dropped; I'm enjoying the "game" like never before.. yeah there are new bugs and some very old ones too! But EDH is not the cluster that some are making out! IMHO
Do you think the following is one little example of the "lack of game play" some now complain of?:
I set out to the far distant systems where the newly discovered Guardians sites are located as the story progresses....
As I approached the Guardian Site in my Asp the misty effects were good, then the eerie music kicked in. As I ventured out in my SRV; into the evocative structures; the mist, music and spooky sound effects actually made the hairs on my neck stand up....then BANG I was suddenly under attack by something the like of which I'd never seen before, I gunned the throttle in hectic reverse and got the hell out.. with my heart racing! I gathered my nerve and tactics and went back and had a fight with the Guardian craft that was obviously still guarding the site long millennia after the sad demise of the mythical builders.
I went about my exploration of the superbly crafted environs, I collected required items (one, an Orb, being round had rolled away out into the distant landscape but I found it), so to complete part of the mission, the voice acting from Ram Tah was engaging. Then I looked down at my gauges and noted my SRV fuel was low (I'd previously ignored a 50% low fuel warning)... so I thought ahh "synthesis".. I can muster up my own fuel......NOPE! I was completely out of "Phosphorus" and with no way of making more fuel and hundreds of light-years from a civilisation station or a materials trader I was stuck! I checked the system map mineral stats for the planet I was on...18.5% Phosphorus present!!!! Hmmm.... not much fuel... not much hope... what to do?... :S
Leaving my Asp parked up; I left the Guardian's enclave and headed resolutely out on a purely random heading in the SRV, out into the dusky dim wilderness with just the hum of my engine and the crackling from under my tyres for company... on and on... fuel level getting lower and lower, eventually something showed on my radar, it was an "Outcrop".. was I saved? A quick bit of "mining" yielded just iron, nickel and some sulfur..
this happened several times as I got further and further from my ship until.... "WARNING 25% FUEL REMAINING"..... I stopped the SRV and pondered my plight.... I'd gone too far to return to the ship.... remotely dismiss the ship and recall it? No chance, the terrain was just too hilly and even if it could land; that would just allow me to flee my predicament and return to civilisation empty handed... I took the risk and continued my way on toward probable oblivion.. more time passed until "WARNING FUEL LEVEL CRITICAL". :O Ahh well I'm gonna die out here![knocked out] (I don't think The Fuel Rats provide their philanthropic cover for stranded SRV's)
Minutes passed as I drove hard, waiting for the inevitable. There was approaching what was probably going to be my last radar trace.... another outcrop! Iron, Nickel and... PHOSPHORUS! ... three units of the stuff! I quickly synthesised a full tank of fuel on the spot! (IRL: I also realised my cup of tea by my keyboard had gone completely cold!). On the way back to my ship and the Guardians site I found another three units of the stuff needed. Spirits were high! On getting back to the mist shrouded alien site... my ship, my Asp, my "Astronomy Domine" was gone...GONE... ? Pirated....STOLEN? I calmed myself as I searched around for the mislaid starship .... before I figured out that there is a safety feature built into every ship....when the wanderlust pilot using the SRV gets too far from the ship it autonomously decides for itself to leave the possible danger area for the safety of deep space. So from the dash of my SRV; I recalled my starship with a sigh of relief, and my adventures continue....[yesnod] .... amongst the stars and the now beautiful looking planets! [up] .... well done to each and everyone of the much maligned team at FD!!!
What lack of content I ask myself...perhaps I'm just becoming a very easily pleased 84'er?
I'm off to bed now, after a jolly good evening immersed in Elite Dangerous Horizons! o7
Fly safe Commanders... and don't let "interesting content" cause you to ignore the fuel gauges.

P.S. "Yeah.. so Skimmer Missions have temporarily been suspended.... they'll be back.... but there IS more to EDH life than simply zapping skimmers!"
