Engineers I'm sure this has been brought up

There are many engineers that upgrade many commonly used components, but I have yet to see one that modifies probably the most commonly used module in game: Cargo racks. Is there an as yet undiscovered engineer who does this?

I doubt cargo rack modifications are available (they weren't in beta), but I have to wonder; What kind of modifications were you hoping for? Palin does sell the specialty corrosion resistant cargo racks, but they are not a mod.

The obvious. Racks that squeeze in more.... stuff.

Since cargo containers are a set size, and your ship can only hold so much.. short of replacing the racks with straps and using the extra couple of feet for a beer fridge I'm not sure what else they can do with them...

Your ship holds what your cargo racks say it holds.

Its a sci-fi computer game, dangit. You tell them they hold more, and conjure whatever reason and title sounds officious.

Is there any difference between the normal Rack's and Palin's, do they carry less, have additional weight or is it just cost?

Palin's cargo racks can pile up to 2T afaik. the can carry any corrosive materials, known and unknown, preventing damage to the ship.
the reason why there is only 2T size is because people was really busy preparing the whinging while the community goal to unlock bigger racks was in place, so, don't blame FD.

According to inara.cz there is a blueprint for corrosion resistant cargo, but no associated engineer - from above it appears to be Prof Palin. I would assume this is to hold those aliens without system failure??

I'm sure there are a few things you could do with cargo racks if you think about it. No, I don't think squeeze-more-in is one of them. ;)

How about...

* Scanner-Block : reduce visibility to cargo/authority scans. Adds RNG possibility that contents will be missed in scan.
* Super-Strapped-In : reduce chance of falling out of ship when the cargo bay doors fail. Hold onto that precise cargo while fleeing pirates.

I'm not sure if they carry half the amount of a normal cargo rack or not.... haven't been there myself, but I know a 1 tonne and 2 tonne rack is available, so maybe that's the capacity for class 1 and 2. Beyond that they probably cost more, and are simply resistant to the corrosive effects of the UAs and Chemical Waste.

Durable Cargo Rack - provides moderate hull reinforcement, maxing out at half that of an H-rated HRP.

Secure Cargo Rack - when buying cargo, this rack is automatically filled first. If your cargo hatch is broken, cargo in this rack will only drop after all other racks are empty.

Shrouded Cargo Rack - this rack has only half the capacity of a standard rack. However, cargo stored within it is invisible to cargo scanners.

Edit: Ninja'd by Khelder.

there was a CG goal back in time to unlock these cargo racks, as it was for the canonn nerds only a few helped, so we luckily got size 1 and 2 racks and the CG failed to reach the higher tiers. don't look for them.

Has anyone actually seen these for sale? The grind through Elvira, the Sirius permit and Marcos, to finally reach Palin would be worth it if there's a prize at the end. Otherwise Palin's improvements are not that great compared to the far easier improvements Tod and Elvira offer.

What you mean like a Mary Poppins style hand bag?

no, I'm thinking more Hermione Granger type, a black hole to put things in....

Of course not. More like some that can add an extra ton to starting at like a size 4 rack, and scaling up. Nothing stupid, just a little extra.
