I'm too busy to play this game.

I just want to say that I wish this game had been better. It still has fun in it but now I've hit a point where my life just doesnt have time for the grind. Its the same reason I quit a lot of mmo's I'm at a point that I'd rather pay a sub fee and get what I need to keep playing rather than grinding through things. I realize you wanted to create something where players feel like they can explore but I've hit a point where I have to spend hours jumping from system to get what I need to continue or spend hours grinding away on planets to get things I need to get to those locations quicker. In the end I'm still using a crap load of time.

I've looked forward to good space sims since StarLancer being the last good one and Freespace2 probably being the best out there. At best I have only a few hours a day or every 3 days to play. This engineer stuff is just too much especially when you make the necessities to get them started or the materials to do them a massive waste of time.

Those of you who will disagree I understand that you enjoy the game the way it is(probably because time is not as much an issue for you) When the game launched the paths were more clear so I could schedule my time better and experiment and soon I was working my way to bigger ships. I've been trying now for a couple months and cant make any real progress.

What would have made this easier is the necessary objectives for the engineers should have been closer to them so you dont waste the better part of day to get what you need. Sitting in a chair twiddling my thumbs is not fun for hours. Its not what I bought this game to do. By introducing this increased grind(when in an interview you said you hadn't realize how much of a grind it had become before the Engineers got released and said you would do something about it) you effectively made the game unplayable to me. I have no intention to buy any future expansions or flair because I will get nothing from any of it because I can't waste more time doing nothing to play a game. When it feels like work I think it has gone too far. Grind is never added replay value. It is work. I'm not saying you shouldnt work for your gear or upgrades or anything like that. Its when you make that overly time consuming to reach is when it becomes the issue. I just dont have the time to invest in 400+ ly jumps to make my gameplay more enjoyable.

I wish you the best of luck frontier but at the current state of the game I must withdraw and find something else that better makes use of my time as I work way too much as it is.

SPACE SIMULATOR + Gamey Features + Even More Gamey Bits Tacked On = RECIPE FOR FAILURE ................. unfortunately [sour]

This, regrettably, is the simulator wall we are hitting - those that bought it for the sense of flying through the galaxy and of open space were prepared to accept some gamey parts to make it workable (even the magnificent sound effects, of course), but as this conflicts with the needs of space gamers who want quick gratification (not a criticism of OP, by the way), so the game falls between the two needs, and probably meets neither perfectly.

I guess FD have to judge the needs of the market and program Elite accordingly.

I still play the game bcos i have way too much time on my hands, but i can 100% understand what you mean :) the engineer grind is abit over the top. but mainly the problem imo is the commodity's that you cant store.

But when that is said, I find the rank grind even worse.... ill have 3 billion CR before I reach Rank12 for a corvette / cutter! and thats just wrong imo :( the cutter / corvette might aswell be free/reward when i reach it, bcos at that point the 200m cr wont mean anything.
That make the CR pointless somewhat, i mean there should be more of a balance between rank and amount of CR i should have at that time.

Yes i do know that fully A rated stuff will cost alot more but still.

Can understand where you're coming from. I work 45 hours a week, that was almost 70 until the end of May so I wouldn't have had a chance in hell of enjoying this game, it's a stretch with what little spare time I have at the moment.

Thankfully, I'm yet to reach the point where the grind is well.. grinding me down. Hope you find something to better occupy your time.

And you make a good point.

I'm surprised. He hasn't been told yet he doesn't need upgrades, play the engineer content at all or it's only a grind if you choose to grind.

No one can tell how people should play, however the game is what it is, and people also need to realize that. A banana will always be a banana, it will never become an apple.

To please cdmr Dumbfries:

I dont quite get it, but each should decide for himself what to do in their free time. I personally would just not grind in Elite, if you liked Elite but dislike grinding. :)

I'm in a similar situation where I have more disposable income than free time and generally refuse to do long grinds. As a result I rarely play games that require large amounts of time to progress as I usually can't get far enough in them to be content with my progress. Elite is an exception where I enjoyed the game enough that I took on the grind regardless (over 1000 hours into the game so far) but the game balance issues and lack of direction and communication from FD has sort of left me questioning whether this is even worthwhile. I'm at the point now where it makes more sense for me to wait for the game to sort itself out and look for lucrative "loopholes" in the meantime to avoid the grind (i.e., ridiculous CG payouts) since this approach actually encourages and rewards occasional players far better than it does grinding. I'm also looking into Star Citizen at the moment as it is very much a "pay to win" model where you can just spend some cash on a large ship without having to spend hundreds of hours in-game grinding for it. This does create it's own balance issues as well but at least I won't spend hundreds of hours grinding for something only to find it was much easier to acquire later (i.e., 2.1.05 patches and CG payouts) or has been nerfed to the point that it's not what I originally worked for (i.e., incendiary rounds, etc).

To sum up " I WANT IT NOW!!! ". Are you in a rush, is someone looking over your shoulder pressuring you, is there going to be an asteroid strike. No excuse I'm afraid, just play the game at your own pace according to your time and things will come in due course. If you can't face that then there is plenty of less taxing games to play that offer quick fixes.

It's probably at a level where it's the least grindy it has ever been. Some of the RNG of the Engineers can still be annoying, but it still asks for much less time than it used to. I will concede that there are times where I am a bit disappointed I can't play because I don't have 3-4 hours to dedicate to playing the game. (Yes, I personally need at least that much time to feel like I got anything out of the play session.) However, I do have many many other games I can play if I just want to drop in for a quick gaming session. Elite isn't for everyone and not as many people truly enjoy space sims, pseudo sims, or even space games in general as much as they think they do. This just means you need to look into other games and that is completely fine.

Good luck.

I went to the CG LHS 133 or something? this morning with my slightly modded Vulture (lvl 3 DD & efficient m/cs with corrosive shell - which took g long enough to complete thanks v much)..& was wiped out by a Clipper cmdr with a 1m bounty..mind you, I vertically boosted into an asteroid to lose my shields while attempting to avoid his heat weapons & then lost another 40% of my hull to his firepower with the corresponding loss of control, spinning into his firing line..so definitely partially :Dmy fault but the damage against my ship was just incredible! Think my PvP days are over now!

I'm playing a different game to those with unlimited upgrade time - I've only unlocked the original 4 engineers & have absolutely no intention bothering with the others! Aside from these huge inequalities, generally I am enjoying the game as it evolves..everything just takes soooo long!

BTW I'm thinking of starting a 'I'm nowhere near a billionaire 'cos I have a life..show off thread' :p

You guys do realise that there is an auto jump option within ED. Simply type in your destination, eg EOL PROU RS-T D3-94 and by the time you arrive home from work, you're there. :D

Ive stopped trying to advance in ED anymore - its just a pain. I have an Asp and thats good enough. Now I do what I want and if there is nothing I want to do I dont play it. Lately I have been exploring for example - checking out the alien relics. Now I am planning to visit some of the giant stars in the galaxy. I may try to reach the some blackholes after that who knows. I also quite enjoyed the mining and the bounty hunting for a while.

But what I havent bothered with at all to date is Powerplay or Engineers. I dont have time to waste having family and like you a few hours a night if I am lucky. I have to get some sort of goal and achieve it within a day or two not weeks. So yes I definitely see what you are saying, even though I havent tried engineers so dont know what grind you are talking about. But I do think if that is the case Frontier are missing the boat with this game. Even the old games you could achieve a reasonable amount in a few hours - do some missions, do some trading, visit a few systems etc. I dont know what sort of person they are aiming the game at with all this grinding gameplay but they do need to reassess the gameplay strategy they are adopting. Its not working very well.

I think they need to be aiming the gameplay towards players getting a payoff every 2-3 hours. That would work well. If the gameplay isnt allowing that its boring and dull and they need to change tack. Powerplay and Engineers - I just have no idea what they are about, I just dont have time to invest in them to find out. They are a complete mystery. Quite unusual actually having whole elements of a game I dont want to play. Its a strange design this game is following. Sometimes I do despair. Thank god there are other things to do, but problem is they dont keep you interested for very long.

OP is the snowflake generation at its finest.

Elite is not a game you play to complete, its a way of life in video games you invest when ever you want no pressure at all.

You play how you like to play, the is no end goal as the never has been with Elite games.

Step back and chill go play something else then come back.

What do want to achieve in ED? Badges, trophies, pat on the back or a special upgrade for people who grind?
