I'm trying to turn myself in!

So I was heading to a station and found a weapons-fire thing in space (I'm not as noobish as this sounds, just blanking on the name. Those points you scan while flying and get a random result). I did make a noobish error when I dropped out of cruise though.

I scanned a ship, it was clean. I'm in a squishy Beluga so rather than waiting for a full scan on the next ship, I targeted and figured by the time my merc lands a shot the scan will be complete... It didn't occur to me this ship may be clean as well. Not my brightest moment. Anyway, I ditch the fighter and jump like a rabbit on crack. Fly to the nearest station to turn myself in for the 300 credit fine...

I got scanned at the docking slot. There's a tresspass fine and turning a Beluga isn't fast. Lost half my hull in the firefight.
I jumped out of the port space and returned, it happened again!

I'm just trying to surrender.

I know this isn't a new thing, but since C&P it's my understanding that unless I turn myself in, I will have to be destroyed. Let us radio a surrender to the station please...

A trespass fine when entering a station means you didn’t request docking permission.

Anyway, find an IF, it’s easier.

If you only got a fine for reckless firing then the station shouldn't fire on you, they don't care about fines other than the anonymous access thing (at least that's how it'd been for me), if you got an assault bounty charge then going to a station in that system was asking for trouble as only an Interstellar Factor can remove a bounty (AFAIK). As for the trespass Codger nailed it, you didn't get docking permission and if the timer runs out they'll open fire, also don't try to turn around in a big ship to get out of the trespass zone, personally I crash into the mail slot gate to stop me, then reverse thrust away.

Auto-dock was in progress both times. I'm guessing the scan retracted my docking permission. The first time I tried boosting through but the scan still beat me so I was entering without permission. The second time was about the same.

I ended up going to a planetary base and got scanned there but nobody jumped the gun. Turned myself in for 700, got moved 8 systems away, and came back.
I don't see why the "Law" kills for everything. Why not make law enforcement aim to disable your ship when it's a non-violent crime? That doesn't really apply this time because I fired on an innocent, but in general it would be such a better system.

I've been trying to find a perfect merc (appearance, back-story) for months. I don't really like the current one's story, but she has the same name as an ex-gf. I can't let her die. I'm running strictly legal.

The scan retracting the auto-dock sounds odd, but I guess it's possible. Personally I don't rely on auto-dock if I've got any sort of bounty or fine in that system, threading a Beluga through a mail slot at 200+ is fun, provided you don't get the stupid wings stuck by not rolling with the stations rotation.

I try not to, I always carry a docking computer (it doesn't happen so much anymore, but I used to have a lot of fun when players would scan me and assume I was a soft target because of it...) I don't use it for my Cutter because that beast can handle a bumpy landing if I drift a little too much, I'm just running around right now upgrading the Beluga's systems. Not much of it is modded at all so if I drift into the wall while entering the station my shields are gone instantly (I rely on bi-weaves, they suck until you fast-charge and add multi-weave resistance, add a few res augmented shield boosters... They turn into an iron shell.)
But for now my Beluga is woefully soft. I don't trust myself without the computer.

Well a scan that turned out anything illegal/wanted in your ship will revoke your docking permissions.... And this is not communicated very well, as what I recall, the only real visible that you have to go on is that the docking text on which landing to land on just goes away...

I guess the docking computer is not updated to handle this, and still tries to dock and land at the designated landing pad..... causing this current problem.....

I have also wondered why there is only one punishment, death, instead of disabling.... and then facing the surrender or restart option....

And I like the suggestion to be able to surrender to the active security forces, regardless if they are ships or the station. How this could work is that you have the option to "surrender" and if the crime is minor, lets say below 5000 credits, they will accept direct payment, and your record a clean again (would be great in resource extraction sites for unintended firing on "clean" ships). But if you kill such ships, you get 5000 credits, and then you have to go to the detention center.

Same story with station. you ask to surrender outside station, and do not have to deal with docking etc, etc.
If approved, and you pay he requested amount, you will be able to ask for docking permission and once approved to dock.
