I'm trying to work this mess out.

The game is well past its estimated release date.

I believe it will not be completed fully even then (correct me if I'm wrong)

Lastly this "Even if your PC of today can't run with all the features on, your PC of tomorrow might." How about the millions who can't afford to buy a powerful new PC?

i call it , i have a simpel amd 4 core pc with some cheap gpu and it runs like a charm on high settings. and yeah even billions cant afford that, let alone food , but im sure this is not frontier their problem. if troll 6/10 , i have bitten.

There is no mess here.

It is a software project with lofty goals. Anyone who expected them to pick a date and hit it is a fool.

These days, with downloadable content packs, games never really complete. They just keep getting new bits added until no-one wants to pay for it anymore.

And from what I've been reading on the last 9 months on these forums is that ED runs very well on what most people would consider 'low power' machines.

Well as you read that did you read this ?
Frontier chief David Braben told Eurogamer that the developer is adding a raft of graphical effects to the game that some players won't have a powerful enough PC to enable. But there are plenty of graphical sliders and checks that should help the game run on a variety of specifications when Elite launches proper before the end of 2014.

Notice that release date ?
There are many players running elite on 2 cores at the moment .well below the specs suggested and they havent even optimized it yet .
I would have thought that you would be looking forward to ED as you have been registered for many years .Though from your posts you did seem to become more angry as time went on ....
If it wasnt for the Kickstarter backers there would be no ED

Just to make an answer
1:No it isnt
2:yes it will
3: You cannot expect an old pc to run it with everything on full .

If your question is "when will the game be officially released?" nobody really knows for sure. It is an ongoing development, and there are still a lot of things to be added. Though some time late this year or early next year seems to be in the right ballpark.

I guess they can't play powerful new games? Though I have been able to play the game on a mid range laptop with a few settings turned off, so it really isn't a case of cutting-edge or bust.

Hi Henry, you've been here since 2006, so I guess like the rest of us you have been waiting a long time for a new Elite! It's nearly here... ;)

DB is talking about scalability and the game's ability to grow with future technology, like 8k resolution screens. You will need a gaming PC to play Elite with any bells and whistles, but it runs very well on quite modest machines.

The game should include some adjustments that will try to conform to your hardware. You will be able to run it with reduced graphics, to a certain point that is. Technology is sadly much like the arrow of time, very directional and tend to abandon the old in favor of the new. This is a reflection of the world we live in, probably.

An estimate is not a milestone. It is a projection of a possible one, but it can't exist, until it does. And when it does, it might not be in the same place. There is no magic wand to make the future happen. So we will have to go there by conventional means. And as with all mundane things, nothing in this life is certain. Things might not appear in the exact same place as projected. Some items will though. Like bills!

Can someone with something to actually say regarding my issues reply?
Sure thing!

1. A game going past estimated release date is not exactly a novelty. As far as I know FD is not "well past" estimated release. I see no cause for alarm at this point.

2. You belief may be right and it may be wrong. There really isn't much evidence for it. Again, I see no cause for alarm. David Braben appears to me to be an enthusiast, who wants to make the game as good as possible. I'd rather trust an enthusiast than a game show host like CR or some corporate marketing suit.

3. My PC is 5 years old and was not top of the line when I built it. It runs ED fine.

EDIT:
More Pod People. Forget it.

I'll bump this when you lot start complaining...
Do I qualify as a "pod person"?

Just had a read of your previous posts made me giggle lots :)
Reminds me of what George R R Martin said/did on Vid when people demanded he write the sequel to GOT .I love the way you demand something without even wanting to support it just because you played a game they made ...google it its in The Guardian wont link cos the language is rather racy :D
