Elite / Frontier I'm trying to write a freeware game inspired to Frontier

Yes, i'm trying do do a "frontier-like" game, writing in c++ and directx.
It's only an hobby, i'm working alone and on my freetime, but i'm having a lot of fun!
If you're curious, http://pidigi.blogspot.com/, it's my develop blog.
I've a dream: David Braben that reads a page and write me "good work" :)

Thank you. And waiting for Elite 4.

Wow this is a real good news..

Good Luck ..hope to see something near 1 year :D

p.s. Tau Ceti was just another great game of the amiga's past history.. would you value another name for the future or is just what you want: tau ceti as reminder of the old time's glory ?

NICE Always good to see someone making this type of game, one for the bookmark.

And good luck with the development of the game.

Ah no not another clone!
Chill I’m just goose’ing ya, looks awesome great work, hope to see it released so we can play it.
The one thing missing though from all the clones is multi player, if an elite/frontier remake had that it would be as popular if not more popular than the original.
and yes i have a server and fat connection ready incase anyone releases shuch a thing and needs a server to host it.

Looks really promising, good work. Hope to see it up and running sometime soon! I don't think it would only be David saying good work.

I will be taking a look at this and following the development, nice one :).

I've thought about doing something similar with DarkBASIC Professional and the available add-ons that they produce for that language. It's a great language to write games with and people have attempted space games with it like Evochron Renegades or the MPL3D Solar System ( which is just a simulator, but impressive none the less ). I bought the DarkBASIC Pro Package way back in 2003 and I still haven't made a start . To be honest, I've only done small projects for university with C++ and assembler so I'm not an experienced programmer or anything, but the challenge of doing something along the lines of Frontier is an interesting one and I can understand why you are doing this project.

It is a way of saving development time for most situations. It takes a long time for an individual to write and finish these kind of projects. There is also another product from TGC, DGDK, which is free now for non-commercial purposes, and works for VS2008 and C/C++/DirectX.
Anyway if it is taken as a hobby, there is no real hurry
This is a space game done with these tools, and the source code has been published:
Final Exodus

MPL3D Solar System ( which is just a simulator, but impressive none the less )

Thanks :) I'm working on the v1.2 exponential camera zoom for planets at this moment.

Back on topic, I think that pdg's Tau Ceti has a good looking so far. I can see many hours spent on this. So, keep on the good work, we are looking forward to play with it ;)

Well, best of British luck with that one. Who knows, your game might be implemented in Elite IV at some point....
