Check out the size of the Cutter in comparison.

Also looking at the scale I suspect an Imperial Interdictor wouldn't stand a chance against a Farragut. Interdictor probably has a higher top speed for escape purposes though! =p

Size isn't everything...

Although yeah the Fed ships seem to be more combat/purpose based than the Imperial ones which are a little more towards style and flexibility for carrying diplomats etc.
