imbalance drift

Remove the drift of the ship without engines. I can't catch up with a truck without engines on my fighter. This is not normal!

a body without acceleration faster than a body with acceleration. this is not physics, it`s nonsense

Due to game mechanics we are restricted to a max top speed, however within those restrictions all the normal rules of physics apply, so a body in motion in a particular direction will continue in that direction unless affected by an outside force, Newtons's first law of motion.

Body 1 and body 2 are moving at a speed of 100 with the engines running. Then body 1 turns off acceleration and cannot move at a speed of more than 100. Body 2 includes a short acceleration of 150. So its speed should be maintained 150, because there is no force ( density of air) to reduce it. In space, it should be like this, if you do not supplement the attraction of the stars.

It is normal.
There are no brakes in space, except engines... no engine, no brakes, no stopping.

The thing that is not Normal is what happens to a player ship when it's engines are shot. As in:
  • if no engines and FA-OFF - ship keeps moving (like npc does, it's normal)
  • if no engines and FA-ON (or if the player enables FA-ON after losing engines) - ship comes to a stop... How come? What's stopping the damn ship? 🤪

There are no brakes in space, except engines... no engine, no brakes, no stopping
And that would be fine if ship speeds weren't arbitrarily caped.

Ships around other ships should slow if engines are dead. Hand wave it as an interaction between the magic fields generated by fsd.

Enter a gravity well, turn thrusters off. Ship will get faster and faster until it hits the surface, there's no speed cap.

I am going to assume we are talking about trying to pirate. Sorry the ships have always done this when you shoot out their engines. It's not a glitch, it's intended. Piracy in general is a pain in the rear for both parties.
Though I suppose that since NPC ships are not supposed to use FA off, they really should drift to a stop.
Real players should be self destructing at that point anyway. For a pirate there is nothing.

Even after self-destruct some cargo modules ought to be left drifting in space. They did after you blew up a ship in Elite I.
