immediate death and destruction of srv when restoring power

Went to https://inara.cz/elite/station/380162/
Landed the ship about 800 m away.
Drove the SRV next to the CMD building.

Everything was powered off. No one around. A dead settlement.

So I grabbed a power regulator from the SRV and went to the fusion reactor to restore power.

As soon power was restored :

  • SRV was instant destroyed
  • I ended up on the ground, mortally wounded

No one shot me. Nothing. As soon the reactor was online... the SRV died, and I died.

And now I lost a power regulator in this....

what happened ?

Operation of a fusion reactor without a license can be hazardous.

Aside from that, I have no clue. I have done the same dozens, maybe hundreds of times, and never had that happen to me.

That's the first time I put a power regulator and bring power back, to die within 2 seconds of the power being up.
Going back to see if my power regulator is still there.

Those things don't grow up in trees....

Probably will be gone.

Edit: but they do exist in every settlement that’s online. And don’t worry, you can grow your eyebrows back in less than 2 weeks after getting vaporized.

Don't know if it's still a thing but SRV explosions had a way of penetrating buildings and killing you. If you took too long to power up, then scavs landed, found your SRV and blew it up (hull damage). If the SRV was close and the SRV exploding issue is still present, then that explosion also killed you.

The power regulator was going to be gone if it was a normal power up mission.
The Hostile Reboot in Thargoid space will keep power up if you get a disconnection after the reactor powers up so you can complete the secondary stage. Was the mission still active? If so it could be completed with one of your own regulators, you should still have lvl 3 access if that's the case. Otherwise you'll want an e-breach to power up.
I haven't had the random death after powering up but I remember another Cmdr posting about it around the time of console transfer.
Lots of ideas regarding what happened, a couple of which have popped up in this thread.
SRV destroyed immediately followed by unexplained death following power up seems to be a particular signature.

Look at the reports of "hull damage" - that's scavengers attacking your SRV. It reached 0% and blew up, and there's a bug that can cause you to die along with it even when you're nowhere near it.

When I do restore power missions, I park the SRV well out of the way or go without it entirely and get the hell out and to a good vantage point while the reactor is powering up.
