Imp Clipper for shadow deliveries?

Haven't been playing much recently and thought id give shadow delivery missions a go. Want to use my clipper really as its my favourite ship.

Anyone using these? Any issues with seeing limited missions due to large pad only? Can these use pads on planet based facilities... do those have large pads?

Cheers in anticipation of replies!

I've used my Clipper for these. You can land at planet based stations because they have large pads available. I like the Clipper too ;)

Would work great as a smuggling ship, plenty of speed if you don't want to target and shoot authority ships. 90% of my smuggling is to planatery ports, 100% of my legal trade missions are to planets, I am using big lumbering ships. All planatery ports have large pads.

Perfect ship really, apart from two things:

1. Short FSD range compared to an Asp means you'll be spending more time honk-jumping around.
2. Requirement for large landing pads means you will spend more time gathering missions. This seems to vary from a minor inconvenience to absolutely impossible with no reason I can see other than random variation in the available missions.

I keep trying it, but always end up frustrated due to the lack of missions.

Edit: If you don't mind landing on planets then you can gather missions more quickly :)

Cheers chaps. So the large pad only thing doesn't seem to affect the numbers of mission offers then in your experiences?

Looks like I'm taking the clipper for a bit long range smuggling then. Just remembered though id sold the damn thing a few months ago... anywhere round about doing a good discount on them please?

Sorry for bone questions... been a while since I played like I said.

Check EDDB, search for Li-Yung-Rui systems that sell the Clipper and you'll get 15% :) Then head to Diaguandri for outfitting, should have most of what you need!

Edit: I think this link should work

Well if you purely do Robigo runs then you will be limited, I never bother with robigo anymore. Ceos has the highest paying missions (For max trade rank), I never have problems finding good runs back to the bubble in a Anaconda/T9/Cutter.

Obsidian Orbital and Darnielle's Progress in Maia is only a short hop back to the bubble. Fehu has a lot of planatery ports, they tend to give you routes to other planatery ports.

Lots to choose from, some better than others - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=229162

As long as you are high trade rank (Tycoon/Elite) and your local rep is good, you'll have plenty of options to choose from. With Horizons you can forget about outposts, the sheer number of surface ports dwarfs the number of outposts ingame.

Ceos, Sothis and Fehu often offer large pad missions; agreed, with horizons the amount of planetary landings to larger bases counteracts the loss of small pads. I'm tempted to do another Sothis run, only in the Cutter. The profit potential if I wait around a bit could be considerable.

I thinkt he point of this thread is, that we need a medium version of the Clipper.

Dear FD - please note well.

The Clipper do have speed, and it can turn around quite nicely - but it also skids about like Bambi on ice. So at speed, when in a hurry because you hear that dreaded 'Scan Detected' warning, squeezing through that slot can get a bit hairy.

For smuggling, especially long range smuggling missions, you're much better off in an Asp with A grade Thrusters and FSD - or if on a budget, the Cobra mk III. You can still outrun the fuzz, you can pick up more missions due to Outposts being available as destinations and last but not least, when in a hurry boosting to the slot is easy-peasy.

I have no issues getting a Clipper through the slot in a hurry. It's quite forgiving. It also has a much much much better yaw than the asp.

The major downfalls of it compared to the asp are the jump range and large pad requirement.

If "large pad"-only doesn't bother you, then the Clipper makes a great runner for shadow missions. Done them with slower and bigger boats too without hassle. If you want to do them with style, then it's either the iBoats or Orca :D

I'd say ASP Explorer is the first choice here. Empty, only 2 Beam Lasers and A kitted Power Plant, FSD, Fuel Scoop and Thrusters.

i was thinking about it, and i'll try it, however a imp clipper mk2 more expensive but with retractable or closer nacelle (like the cutter) so it fit medium pad would be awesome
