Impact sounds (on your ship)?

I just watched James Zahra's clip of Alpha 2.0 on youtube, which was a joy to behold, very clear and easy to see what was going on,

but shortly before Mr Backburner's demise, our James took some fairly severe hits. Apart from the customary firework display, I don't see much sign of it though. In the original game I remember the dreaded sound of your shield, and energy supplies crumbling round your ears as your merciless adversary landed repeated salvoes of laser fire on your hapless hull, it was ....emotional.

This must have been discussed, will there be no appropriate audible accompaniment to incoming bombardment?!! :)

hmmm yes its being discussed in Alpha forum

if you have access: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11383

or not here is a quote from Sandro Sammarco, lead designer

Hello Commanders!

So, the warning alert for being attacked seems like a no-brainer to me - it is going on the big list! I feel mildly embarrassed for not thinking of this ages ago, actually.

We have also been discussing a countermeasure system specifically to foil gimbal weapons (and possibly some tracking missiles). It would drink energy from one of the power distributor buckets (as opposed to using ammo) and temporarily prevent gimbal weapons from tracking, though it would not hide your signature.

Again, the idea with this would be to give commanders more options with risk/cost benefits.

Thanks.

I quite enjoy seeing snippets like this from time to time.

Not having access to the alpha forum I don't know how it is structured, but is it possible to have some threads of interest archived and moved (like the DDF archive) so we can see things like this and not keep pestering you alpha people to provide them to us?

I would also love to see the pilot being violently shaken in his seat when getting hit hard by kinetic projectiles/missiles/debris/collisions.

the lack of noticeable feedback to shield damage has been a point of feedback since day 1. I wasn't convinced at first, but now I'm starting to come around.

One issue I see with calling for balance based on Alpha 1 and 2 is that we're in artificial, laboratory conditions. I don't think (or at least I hope) that we'll never have a situation like the current MP scenarios with everyone arriving at the same point in the system. Makes it hard to separate friend from foe in the mining scenario for example.

I agree with Kroy, its hard to discern if you are attacking or being attacked or indeed if its someone close by that is firing - just so much going on which I doubt would be anything near the case in the final released version.

It felt in Alpha 1 that you could easily tell whether you were under fire because you were the only one around so it was nice and quiet, now with so many others around and the focus you need to fly / avoid / target / re-distribute power settings.... just chaos - but brilliant! ;)

So yeah it is being looked at, but I would say it needs to be in a full scale environment not the small areas we are now playing / testing in. I would even suggest an alarm to notify you of a RL players approach but honestly feel that would be detrimental to the immersive experience - maybe just a general alarm saying another ship is approaching and in your area?

In addition to this, how about being able to upgrade your scanner so that it can identify the signature of your last attacker.

Absolutely, I mean in this situation, space combat, with that technology, why wouldn't your ship tell you who your attacker was?

I definitely think CAMERA SHAKE would really, really help feeling the "weight" of impacts.

That's a good idea, but its VERY and I really emphasis VERY hard to target any opponent when you face them (once they are on you) as the glare caused by PewPew Lazors seems to be mental if they are hitting dead on, its also a nightmare getting them in sights long enough to even target them to know who is attacking you at the moment (being looked at I believe) ;)

The shake would be great on an initial hit or three but to continually shake then to have to turn and face your aggressor into a stream of lazar fire blinding you would be too much... I'll try and screenshot it... in a bit ;)

Next kill so shouldn't be long :)
