Imperial Clipper explorer build

I explored in my Clipper for years. It's a stylish, fast, great-sounding ride. I also had a 26-ish Ly jump range (engineered), but mine was fully armed, SCB, shield boosters, heat sinks etc. You would also do well to add a small collector limpet, some cargo racks (for limpets) and an AFMU (or 2) and fill -er up with limpets. So handy for collecting materials! Heat sinks are also handy for those unexpected lapses in concentration when jumping 43 times in a row.

I was often complimented on the ship when arriving in some far flung locations (Guardian sites, mainly... "Oooh, nice ship, CMDR!", while surrounded by AspXs and DBXs.

The "easy" engineers that are pretty much mandatory* (and quite fun to unlock) are Felicity Farseer for the FSD modifications (increased range, naturally), and Palin (quick 5KLy journey, nice for testing your build before a longer jaunt) in Maia for dirty drives: 550 boost, heck yeah!

The above image was taken sjortly before another CMDR appeared in his AspX. I was finished with the ruins, had a chat, and then boosted really low over his SRV, just to show off. Clipping the big hilltop in the process, shields offline, hull down to 21%. o_O That'll teach me to show off!

I'm always tempted by the c7 slot for a fuel scoop.
Sadly the Phatom declasses it in nearly every other category, but I guess sometimes I have to build one like that:

I've used a Clipper for exploring in the past, and the most critical thing I found was... fitting an extra fuel tank. When I first had the FSD engineered and so on, the range was reasonable, but it used around 40% of a tank in a single jump. It was ridiculous. An additional class 3 tank later, and all was good.

Good idea, but with a 7A scoop, he'll be full up by the time he has grazed the star for a millisecond :D

I'm on the way home from Beagle Point in my Clipper (Semotus Beacon actually) and it is a fantastic explorer, the supercruise agility is amazing. 50LY range fully kitted out isn't near the top end nowadays but is good enough, and that giant fuel scoop is fantastic for fast jumping. I will second the recommendation for adding a fuel tank; it takes a ton of stress out of hitting unscoopables. Honestly, the worst aspect of the Clipper for exploration for me is how terrible it looks with deteriorated paint; some ships look decent as the paint wears, the Clipper just looks like ass.
