A Clipper is perfect for combat
In the beginning their was the ASP and it was ugly and bashy. And Lo when an Anaconda or a Python shot at it, it was good and bashed into them when their shields were down.
I know, I know ..... Lots of cross people will moan, saying they wanted a 'fair' fight and that using your ship isn't fair. But who said fighting had to be fair. The Asp with shield boosters and a hull re-enforcement package was a weapon itself and I make no apologies for it. A main battle tank operates in much the same way!
the Clipper, on the other hand is a snipper. (Or ninja if you prefer)
With A grade power and a few b grade other things (thrusters and KWS) you can afford to fit big gimballed Beams and medium gimballed cannons and only go to 102%
Mine is here http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=603,4zh4zh7OX7OX0mI3wK0_g0_g,2-9Y9i7_889i7_6k,0Bk7US4_w7gy05U05U03w03w
The large beams strip even the strongest shields in no time (don't forget to increase weapons to 3 pips during the fight). Then when you are close enough, and need the beams to re-charge, deliver the killing blow with Gimbaled cannons with little wastage. Get behind and stay behind (or underneath if it is a Python).
As they wriggle and squirm keep an eye on the shields and shield boost when you need to. If it gets too hot then take a short break (a tactical retreat) as you are faster than them and then get back in there when you are ready. If they get away, so what, you aren't going to get them every time.
It is a good all round ship, sexy and sounds great but don't be put off by the nay sayers about its fighting capability. If it is fought properly then it is a great weapon and who wouldn't want two large gimballed beams?
